Seven Mile Beach - the promise of orchids : May 4 2025
A morning to hide from the world - the day after Australia voted to keep the same shitty government we have had the last 3 years. Not going to be good for anyone with assets as they plan to tax unrealised capital gains. My whole income game is building capital
We did the shopping run before lunch
We had friends over for lunch - did a simple BBQ lunch. Headed out on the bike to look for orchids. Tiny red mushroom - did find common wasp orchids but photos were poor
Greenhood rosettes - new leaves just forming - no buds

My May the Fourth be with you photo. Two bull ants - it looks like a struggle of some form but there was no back arching and pumping formic acid into bite marks. Maybe a mating ritual
Better focus on this tiny flower - better focus than the wasp orchids but still not great. Flower is half the size of a US penny

Greenhood rosette - going to be a good season over the next few weeks
Helmet orchid developed a bit further. This was a good sighting as it had me looking more closely either side
Found this under the fern fronds - a few spikes - greenhood budding - bracts up the spike and the shape suggests tall greenhood - bunochilus longifolia. Marked the spot to find it again

Do like being able to get on the bike to access the bush - no traffic and short ride.
