Seven Mile Beach NP - Orchids and Mushrooms : May 5 2025
A night of weird dreams. My wife headed off early to go swimming and to drive back to Sydney - we failed to bring her laptop yesterday. Good news is her friend chose to drive with her. Sneaky suspicion is she wanted to see the apartment. That aside a drive with company always helps
Did cut the grass before anything else - got a few steps doing that
Did the investing stuff and went out riding before lunch - orchids to check - ride to the middle of Seven Mile Beach ti do an overlap walk from the day before - geeenhood rosette - some way to go to flowering
A theme for the day - mushrooms and orchid leaves
The heart shaped leaf is an acianthus orchid
Two types of orchid in frame - no mushrooms this time
A mushroom cascade makes a challenging photo - the bark is in focus
Not everything is a view down - looming up to this old gum tree - at least 30 metres before the canopy which is another 20 metres
Feels like a strange acianthus orchid season - almost every plant with a spike has pollinated before flowering - the clue - the leaf has left the ground
Back to the theme - different type of mushroom - orchid is acianthus
Silver top mushroom - they like the sandy loam too
Budding helmet orchid
Spent a lot of the day looking for flowering acinathus orchids - this is the closest - not quite open pixie caps orchid
Mushrooms in orange too
After yesterday's leech experience had gone out with boots - this one latched on when hand went onto the ground. One of the two for the day. Did find two in my boots when I got home. They give me the willies
Walked further along the track than I have done previously - reached halfway between the village and the beach access road - seen it once before. There was a lot of orchid evidence - worth riding to the midpoint again and walking this a few times
Fab mushroom colours
Budding acianthus orchid and greenhood rosettes
Back to twin orchids
More orchid twins - this walk tells me there are a lot more greenhood orchids compared with last year
Shiny mushroom dome - did the overlap with prior day walk to check on the greenhood I saw then
The.flower had progressed a bit - confirms what I thought - tall greenhood - bunochilus longifolia. Will come back again this week to confirm
Now this is an interesting shot of an acianthus orchid. Not flowering but each flower has a leaf below. The second leaf is not normal - for this to have 3 is not normal and is exactly that - not normal
Budding helmet orchid - will know in a week which one it is
A fab day out on the bike. No wind and the sound of the sea as I walked
Dinner: Fish and chips - new play - airfryer chips
Late night adjusting a few naked put trades
