First season greenhood in Seven Mile Beach NP : May 14 2025
Forecast is for some rainy days ahead - best get out riding and walking before the rain comes. Got on the bike before lunch to walk front section of Seven Mile Beach NP closest to home
Spied this moth at home as I was getting ready - not seen one like it
Hoping to find a helmet orchid flowering - first one budding
Lichen in 3D
Spied this bit of gloss - carapace of a bug - bug is no longer
Was a day for mushrooms - deleted a lot of out of focus photos
Pushed through the leaf litter - same type as the one before
Next helmet orchid bud - about the same stage as the one before
Turned up edges shows the ribbing beneath
Track is a bike path too - this rider walked home
At last an open pixie caps orchid - acianthus fornicatus
Pollinator was too quick to pose
Budding greenhood orchid
Side on of acianthus orchid showing the column
Walked the extra to check the budding orchids seen last week - flowering. Flower open with forked labellum tells me it is pterostylis concinna - trim greenhood. Not what I thought
View from behind
Acianthus orchid with attendant pollinator and signs of pollonia
Front on with pollonia in the front of the labellum
Big cluster of mushrooms off track introduces a whole new area to look for orchids - off track
Mushroom in toasted brown
Two for one orchid photo - budding greenhood and acianthus leaf
Triple decker plus one
Also in white with ripples
The best developed helmet orchid - can just see the spurs of corysanthes aconitiflorus - spurred helmet orchid
Rounded shapes
Upturned edging
Black mushroom on a mossy base
So many mushroom types - autumn is the time for them
In pink on a side track pushing through the sand base of the track
Larger scale - a bit smaller than a saucer
Side track walk to see if chiloglottis orchids are still going - found one
Side on - chiloglottis diphylla
Fire ant stopped just long enough
This pink mushroom pushed a bit further from the sandy track showing its ribs
Easy ride and a good walk for one new season orchid. Of note, Fitibit records fewer steps than Actifit on the phone
Did cook dinner - a beef casserole from thehead
Sear the chopped beef and then saute the chopped onion, celery, carrot and garlic. Deglaze the pan with wine and some beef broth
Tossed in a bunch of herbs from the garden - sage, oregano, thyme, parsley. As dish simmers for a long while no need to chop herbs - just pick out the stalks later. A few tablespoons of tomato salsa and paste - thickening from there. Flavours - ketjap manis and soy sauce. Add in seared beef and simmer for a good hour and a half
Serve with mash and green veges

Great shots from Seven Mile! 🤩 Hope you find that helmet orchid in full bloom! 🌸
Will be back in the next 10 days - got some big rain coming - unlikely to get out before we go back to Sydney
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a white mushroom before
It looks really great…
Quite a few different white ones - they are hard to photograph as the white grabs the light - most photos are deleted
