Colymea State Conservation Area explore : May 31 2025

A disturbed night with weird dreams. Coldest night of the year so far did not help. Spent the morning writing up the week's investing stuff. Was in 8 minds about what to do for the day.

Decided to drive further up the road I was on yesterday - looking for places to walk that I have not walked. Turned off onto Bamarang Road to check out a kayak launch ramp. Reflections in a brown creek

The context photo. Chose not to walk this road as it is riddled with lantana on the edge of the nature reserve

Drive further along the road to Yalwal Picnic Area - a newly made up gravel road up away from the river reserve. Walked Christmas Bush Track to start. A well made track to access the powerlines. A few banksia flowers about

A few pea flowers

A few grand trees

A few mini trees with red tops - could be Christmas bushes

A few mini flannel flowers - so small

Next of the pea flowers - does not look the same as the previous one - more yellow

A picture of light - fine hairs catch the light

Made it to the powerlines - the view north to Cambewarra Mountain. The disappointing part is there was a lot of trail bike activity = noisy

Looking south down to the next creek

Right there was this seeded midge orchid

One a bit further on - looks like the seeds have popped

The whole area under the powerlines was full of these white heath flowers - lots of buzzing bees

The stepped back view

Mini mushroom on a sandy base

Hibbertia flower on the way back

Wattle flower

Dampiera purpurea

Not seen this flower before - hard to photograph in bright light

The cluster works a bit better - looking up - maybe cranberry heath flower- not convinced though

Cicada moulting station - not seen so many in one spot

Context photo for the track I was on. Drove down to the next one - shorter walk to the powerlines

Slender rice flower

Light was just in the right place for this lambertia formosa photo.

Context photo for this track. No idea why it is called that. Something was salty.

Decided not to drive all the way to Yalwal Campground which is on the Shoalhaven River. Lots of potholes and a bit short on fuel. A trip for another day. Maybe load the bike on the car - drive up the hill and then cycle across the top.

Did get fuel on the way home. The only person I talked to all day was the lady in the service station. Certainly feeling the disconnect of living in two places - cannot be bothered to make friends in either place until I know where I am living.

And next visit will be on a weekday. Did not feel comfortable leaving my car exposed - the trail bike rider types would love to steal it. Did have one vehicle parked up just around form where my car was parked. He moved off when I walked up to the road.

Bamarang Dam on the way back

Decided on a home alone evening rather than go to pub or club. Cooked macaroni cheese

And watched the Giro d'Italia till late

Australian Chris Harper won the stage with a big solo effort

And the Brit, Simon Yates rode a master-class to go from 3rd to 1st in overall time. I waited until he was done - with a lot of riders still on the road. Another late, late night

Tomorrow I get to see my granddaughter and my son. Cannot wait.

Nothing else can give us as much peace as natural things, especially when we see different types of flowers and all the other natural things, it increases our happiness.
