5 orchid day in Seven Mile Beach NP : June 3 2025
After the big walk yesterday plan for the day was a quiet day with a bike ride to walk a slice of Seven Mile Beach NP.
Walked down to drop off vege scraps for the chickens. Did take photo of the mountain - not going home today
Got out riding around midday - to my mid point marker on Gerroa Road - then walk to the track
Was confident to find helmet orchids open - this one budding
Lots of pixie caps orchids flowering - acianthus fornicatus. Can see the column through the helmet and also a micro spider
Cluster of greenhoods with spikes showing - counted 6 - but no flowers open
First painted fingers on this track for the season - caladenia picta
A few two for one photos - mushrooms and orchids
Budding greenhood
A bit more shape for an ID - nodding greenhood in a known spot
Rumpled mushroom form
Budding helmet orchid
Formative mushrooms forms
Did find an open helmet orchid - fringed or bristle helmet orchid
Mushroom unfolded
Pixie caps orchid and a bug and a spider web. The bug had a carapace - so not a fly. Freed it from the spider web
Saw a greenhood rosette and then this bud - shape and the single bract suggests a trim greenhood
Got the ID right - side on view
The front on view of the forked labellum is key - pterostylis concinna - orchid 4 for the day
Interested to see the variations in the corysanthes fimbriatus - this one had a tiny leaf - maybe one third the size of the largest
Found more ptersotylis concinna further along the track than I normally walk
Matching rosette
A full bloom of acianthus fornicatus - a fun focus challenge
3 helmet orchids in frame
Close in on one of them
Australian native violet - a rite of passage
More two for one
Stop for one thing and see another - a trio of mushrooms
Learned this week that many mushrooms start this colour and then go brown
Ever wonder what these mushrooms turn into
This one - something like this - next to each other
The next wave of greenhoods - 6 buds in frame
Mottled white form
Silver top folding out
Shiny, tiny in brown
Corysanthes fimbriatus - at the base of the greenhood site I saw last walk here
One pterostylis concinna still going at this spot. They are now on both sides of the track and have set base down the track where the rain would have taken the seeds last season
Nodding greenhood business not far from where the bike gets parked - a known spot
Found one open - pterostylis nutans - first opener this season on this track
Interesting mushroom form
First ride in a few days
Went to bowling club for Tuesday raffle draw. That got even more steps done. As it is birthday month I scored a free drink. Chatted to a few people we have met before. Been going days without talking to anyone
Dinner: Pork chops on bbq.
Late night staying up for US markets open - a few adjustments done
