Parma Creek Nature Reserve walks and Daddyman time: June 29 2025
Made a plan with my son - walk a track not walked and then go visit to hep out. That way I get a walk in and can leave the rest open ended. Chose to walk Parma Creek Nature Reserve
This is dry scherophyll country - not conducive to autumn orchids
Coral heath flowers - took a side track down tona waterhole - lots of bees I said. Not that many of those little white flowers to explain that
Reflection on the water hole
A heap of beehives explains the bee noise
Wattle flower against the water hole backdrop
Turned into something of a banksia walk - a few types
Pea flower - a few budding but only a few open
The banksias are probably all the same - just different stages of flowering
The spiky leaves are key to ID
A few lambertia formosa too
Did find summer orchid leaves - cryptostylis orchids
Sundew - easy to see why it has the name. The frilly hairs always hold onto the dew
Grand tree marks the turnaround on this second track
Hell Hole trail - was walking this from the other end earlier
This fluffy pink thing caught my eye - no idea what it is
A flash of purple off the track - patersonia iris opening up - a few months early
More fluffy pink - will look up an ID
Coral heath flower - an easier photo with good light angles
Another unexpected flowering - drumsticks flower - just one open
Last of the banksia for the day
Dampiera purpurea - also just one flower off track
Slender rice flower
Stopped in shops on the way to my son's place - he needed some things as did I.
Spent 3 hours keeping my granddaughter busy and entertained - we played bounce the ball. We picked lilli pilli berries from the tree in the garden - more says Scarlett and allowed me to pick her up. Never done that before
Evidence- the berries prepared on a plate she has cooked for me. Now engrossed in Bluey. Googled how safe the berries are - eat too many you may get a rumbly tummy. Taste is a bit bitter - very high in Vitamin C. A key Aboriginal staple. Good in salads and to add tang to cheese
The dog - looking out the window and not the TV
This was the special moment - she chose to sit next to me. Not done that in 30 months
We went walking with the dog - Scarlett walked all the way and I pushed her trike. The day before she had a melt down about walking along the road. Take Daddyman's hand - she did - not done that before. On the way back she helped push the trike
Daddyman had to hold both hands on. Had to walk like a duck till I worked out how to walk side by side. She explained to my son why she calls me Daddyman - I look like daddy
A special day as the young lady is deciding - she waved goodbye for a long while
Dinner: Cooked chicken curry - the best way to deal with high emotion times - cook good food. The last 30 months have been really more than any grandparent should have to deal with

Now that is a post!
I usually count on a visit to your blog for a nice nature walk and a bit of a lesson in regional flora. 13k steps make it even more legit!
Just yesterday, my little one came home from the plant store and brought home a little something that reminded me of you.
Love the family experiences shared as the icing on the cake.
So many moments of happiness and real life. Blessings!
What the little one did is pick a plant that still has some buds. They keep flowering from the bottom and take about two weeks for each to open. So you have 6 weeks. Life lesson especially for blokes - buy one for the missus with one flower (so you know the colour) and 8 buds - 16 weeks of happy missus - 4 months
Hey good tip! I will have to do that for my better half.
I said to my little one I think they are a little challenging to keep alive and healthy. She explained she has been researching and watching videos and knows it is a challenge. She is going away to college and will have it as a companion she has to care for.
