First Worrigee Nature Reserve walk plus DaddyMan time : July 5 2025

Plan today - bush walk on the way to my son's place and give him some free time to get his chores done. I take care of the dog and my granddaughter

Chose to walk Worrigee Nature Reserve in South Nowra - not walked it before

The place has some significance in my orchid journey. The sign talks about threatened species - the person who introduced me to orchids, Alan Stephenson was instrumental in providing the protections. I talked at his funeral last year about walking in his footsteps - today I was

A few surprises for a mild winter - Australian bluebell

Another - purple pea flower - did see a few

First orchid of the day - pixie caps orchids - acianthus fornicatus. Have never seen so many plants flowering - in patches of 20 or 30 and in the hundreds

A few greenhood rosettes - no buds here

Lots of these yellow bubbles flowering. First time noticing - common Billy buttons

An out of focus mushroom - the green leaf in the top part is an orchid leaf - greenhood

Seeded greenhood - looks to me like a speculantha orchid - will come back earlier next year as I have not seen these flowering

3 greenhoods budding - hard to ID - come back soon. Good news is I can access these by road with a shorter walk next time

Saw this orchid standing an inch above the ground - just one flower - shape is not as sharp as a sharp greenhood and they are generally finished now

Front on - labellum comes out straight- not bent - going to guess it is pterostylis hildae - a bit early bit location is OK - Nowra and to the north

Drove down to my son's place. My job is to entertain his daughter and the dog

She got into trouble for bringing her toys out to show me. "Come to my room, DaddyMan" - did that for a bit

Then played outside for ages - making footprints and keeping the dog entertained. This is a key part of the journey - "Scarlett will deicide" - she is.

My son got his chores done. We all went for a walk - new baby too. Happy to help.

Had dinner with friends- good to have a night off after a big emotion day
