Sydney High Blue Gum Forest walk to reflect : July 9 2025

My day did not start well. I had seen some condolence messages from my family. Who is it? Had to dig a bit to fund it was my sister's younger daughter - gone after a ling cancer struggle and leaving behind 3 young kids

Stuck up my version of an out of office post and went on a walk - train and then walk to one of the remnant Sydney High Blue Gum forests

Yep - towering blue gums

Learn a bit about the High Blue Gum Forests - only 5 percent left and all easily walked across inside an hour

Not walked this often - hoping the rainforest is good for winter orchids - this photo of a big colony of acianthus orchids - no flower spikes at all

First orchid flowers for the day - pixie caps orchid - flowers just in line with the sandstone to the right of the gum nuts

A few acinathus in frame - some seeded and some still in flower

Track drops down to the creek through the rainforest - not seen orchids here in past walks - strange as the climate is right and creek does not rose this high. If it did there would be no leaf litter

Rain forest does mean mushrooms - lots of different types - steel grey

The rings bring great detail and energy

Have not walked this far down the track - went to the end - lovely section along the small feeder creek - and a tumbling waterfall

Last orchid of the day - lovely shot of acianthus fornicatus

Someone is looking after the site - too many garden escapees for that to be working right. Long while before the orchids come back

A big walk back up through the West Pymble streets - a few grand houses

The old cottage feel has gone - multi-family mansions

A few variations - render wipes away the brick veneer

A little style left.

What is happening here? Around the corner is an elite girls public school. The houses in the surrounding streets are being bought by ex-pats so their girls can go to the private school - all Chinese or Indian

Got back to Pacific Highway. Have been watching the redevelopment of this old church building - rendered again and painted.

The surprise was this sign. Been taken over by the local council for town hall.
