Jervis Bay NP orchid finds : July 19 2025

Day two of helping my son out - same pattern as the day before. Get a bush walk in and then head down there early afternoon

Walked a Jervis Bay NP fire trail in Huskisson - not walked it in winter - hibbertia to start the exploration

Never know what will be orchid of the day - maybe this cryptostylis leaf

Joins up with the main Huskimoon fire trail - a bit rain forest-like

Slender rice flower - quite a few around

Acacia flower - wide leafed version

Big wide fire trail on level ground - some chance the orchids will survive on track edges as they have not been mounded

Did find an orchid right on the track - tall greenhood

Bunochilus longifolia - first time seeing these on this track = a win

Always like to find a second orchid - took quite some time to get number two

And three - front on

New buds forming - a good half dozen plants flowering is a win

Snake orchid - cymbidium suave on a tree stump - huge seed pods not yet popped the seeds

Given the rain forest nature was hoping to find other greenhoods - one cluster of half a dozen flowers popping up above the long grass

Nodding greenhood - this one a little past its best

ID challenge in pink form - slender rice flower

Good to get two orchids in flower and 6 types in total - the ones flowering are new for me on the track

Spent a lovely afternoon with my son and his family. "Come play, DaddyMan" says my granddaughter. My son used the time to get on top of a lot more chores. Was fun time for me and the good byes from my granddaughter said everything

Shopped on the way home to get ready for next visit. Cooked BBQ for dinner - did that outside to avoid smoke alarms seen last night

Another TV night - watching British & Irish Lions play Wallabies at rugby union. A win for my team. Also watched a slice of Tour de France up mountains I have cycled
