Berowra Track orchid hunt : July 22 2025
Got a blue sky day - got moving on the PC stuff to have time to catch a train and walk a track down to the rainforest hoping to find winter orchids
Berowra Station - then down the cliffs
One small detail - the track to Apple Tree Bay is still closed
Wooden look mushroom
Amazing how a tree hangs onto life - the centre is gone
Saw these tent frame poles on a rock. Look closer - a shield made from branches and a tarpaulin. Someone has been roughing it here
The somebody was wrapped up in a sleeping bag lower down. Always give me the creeps as you never know how they will react if you surprise them
Focused on walking quietly the other way - eriostemon showing a few flowers
Lots of darwinia flowering - red and white flowers on one bush. White flowers got deleted as they were out of focus
Lomandra flowering in a rock crack
Mimosa flowers
Rick orchids high above on a rock face
A few woollsia pungens flowering on the way down
Greenhood rosette - no sign of flower spikes- guessing this one has still to show
A hairy encounter - leaf and flower - no idea on ID
Hibbertia flower
Mushroom on a branch - a contrast of cream and orange
Acianthus orchid leaves, a rock ledge and moss for colour
A mix of acianthus and greenhood orchid leaves - no flowers
View across the creek - heading down to the crossing
Red five corners flower - hard to photograph as camera cannot find a focal point
Something - leaves - is in focus
Reached the creek - a small tumble of water
Must be something when it flows. You can see how the flow of water has carved out round caverns
Chose to turn around here - bush switches back to sheoak. Their needles are too acid for orchids.
Mushroom on the way back. Pushed hard to get in time for the train. Not many photos on the way back.
Train guard saw me as the doors were closing. He opened for me. A few stations later a young lady ran to the closing doors. Missed the step and came flying into the compartment. Luckily not hurt - and not dead between platform and train
Dinner: Cottage pie form left over bolognese sauce
Late night working on AI Affilate Goldmine launch. A few hiccups in getting stuff approved
All working now - check the preview https://mclnks.com/aigoldfpz
That took a while - decided to stay up to watch the TdF go up Mont Ventoux. Always like to see the race go along mountains I have climbed. The race itself was exciting - first time ever seeing a contest at the top of the mountain

Lovely pics! Shame about the Apple Tree Bay track closure though. 🍄 👍
It has been closed for more than 3 years now. Cannot access it from either end - might have to sneak in by kayak. The sad part is there is an orchid flowering there that I have not seen anywhere else - about this time of year
If it is possible, I would love to see more of the mimosa flowers
They are really cute
I thought you might - got a few lining up in the next few posts - for yesterday and today.
