New season mayfly orchids from Terrey Hills : July 24 2025

Need to get some shopping done - makes a different plan. Drive to Terrey Hills side of Ku-ring Gai Chase NP to walk there and shop after - a few target orchids in mind

Lovely still blue sky day for a walk - hakea flowering across the track

Gnarled eucalyptus tree lost most of its bark

Found one nodding greenhood in a known spot - survived the track work. My recall is this was a pterostylis hispidula spot - small nodding greenhood

Matching rosette with small leaves seems to confirm that ID

Found one further along growing in the semicircle of a dead tree - same short sepals - and very pale given low
light

Sydney boronia just starting their season

Mimosa flowering - note the wider leaves

Came off track to loop back into the rainforest segment - chiloglottis leaves caught my eye

Right here was this cobra greenhood - pterostylis grandifloris

One of a few flowers. Could not get a photo with the tip of the labellum - maybe tomorrow

Cryptostlyis leaves - did check the back - all green

NSW coral heath flower in pink

The first sign of one of today's targets - mayfly orchid. Heart shaped leaf and a spike with a flash of colour.

First sighting for this season - acianthus caudatus - needs a few photos to capture the delicacy.
