Blue Gum Walking Track orchids : July 25 2025

Started the catch up accounting on the last week investing. Had to break the sit behind the computer. Started looking at maps - plan to walk Blue Gum Walking Track. Have walked some before but the plan is to walk the whole le gth from the other end. Train first

Train to Roseville station and then drop down to the creek. High walking bridge over one of the feeding creeks

Drop down to the tiny creek

Not walked these streets before - some fab old houses

Columns and arches in single story houses

A bit more grand across the way - double story and a tower behind

Not seen this flower before - a garden flower

Found a path off the road running along the top of the ridge into the National Park

Brush turkey posed

Mimosa flowers

View down to the creek. Too bad this path just Looped back to the road. Took a while to find the walking track - no signage. The story of the day

Did find the track - not exactly NP standard - all overtaken by privet

Context photo - back into the NP. Some indication of distances

A different mimosa flower

Did find a greenhood rosette - saw this first

And there was one flower opening. Sepals not extended yet on nodding greenhood - pterostylis nutans

Crossed the creek and walked away from Chatswood side - a wide trail devoid of orchid life. Photo of the big structure containing the water pipe. Fenced off - no can walk over it

Turned back. A huge thanks to whoever kicked the shit out of the signage. All I can see is a blue arrow on the pole pointing to where I was planning to go. I hope blue is good.

Hard to believe this overgrown bush once had a rifle range - 70 years of growth will hide a lot

Back across Blue Gum Creek marks as far as I walked last time from the other side

First signage on the track - had to check Google maps to see if this was a good way out

An interesting purple and white mushroom - not seen one like this

The stage before flattening out - a forest of purple

Stopped to photograph this hypericum. Good thing too

Right there was this cobra greenhood - pterostylis grandifloris

Did find a greenhood rosette further along - probably nodding greenhood

And a cluster of cryptostylis orchid leaves - green backed.

Classic rocky overhang - in years gone by the locals would have sheletered here

Signage at the far end of the walk. Not much evidence of Sydney High Blue Gum forest left compared with other walks the last few weeks

A map too - left hand arrow shows where I came in and then the lower arrow shows my route

Off the track and looking up the hull to the towers of Chatswood. Will walk to the station there and then train home

An old style home - the one next door has fencing around and will become unrecognisable if council is soft on the changes allowed

St Paul's Anglican Church in Chatswood. All signage is in Chinese

Completed another station to station walk the hard way - via the drops into the bush. Good training for the 7 Bridges walk at the end of October. And there were orchids

Dinner - cooked sausages on BBQ - wife is ill - not wanting food.

Did get my IM review published
