Rainy day Gordon walk - a few old cottages : August 10 2025

Rained almost all night - heard it on and off. Was a bleak start to the day. Stuck my head down in the study writing up investing accounts and getting ready for next product launch. My wife's cold is coming back - a lot of coughing

Went out for a late afternoon walk - big loop to get the steps in and tonget some shopping done - huge magnolia across the road from our place

Walked up a street one higher than normal to get to shopping centre - a few old houses in among the new. They painted the walls rather than render it

Red crucifix orchids make the orchid of the day - not native but they are orchids

Another of the cottage houses - before too long they will all be gone. Replaced by Goergian mansions or apartments

Apartment for sale. The standard model - 2 bedrooms - one garage. 2nd car on the street

Got the shopping done. Had planned the dinner in the morning - stuck the oyster blade roast in the sous vide this morning for 8 hours at 131F. Made one misjudgement - had put liquid smoke in the bag. No problem there. Then used the sauce for the jus - became a confused smoky mess and not a clean peppercorn jus.

The cook was right - meat was tender. Seer was perfect. Simple sides - baked potato and green beans.

Next time a crisp jus.

Rain washing everything clean once again for an early Spring season.

No rain here, the flowers I wrote about yesterday are starting to show promise of new season here.

Yup, we been sharing since Aug 2016 so we have had a long run here, still enjoy it.

BTW: Not on FB any longer, 5th Aug could not get in. Demanding facial recognition to authorize my account, not putting up with their BS, I have written with no response.

    You've come a long way, and in addition to exercising and shopping, you've seen wonders of nature such as those beautiful flowers with dewdrops, all of them beautiful, my favourite being the amaryllis.

    It's a shame that old houses are disappearing instead of being restored. I love the gardens in front of them and how spacious they are. But the world is changing, and that's the way it is.

    The view after the rain, the flowers and plants that grow, they start to look much more beautiful, they have a little bit of water on them and they become much cleaner.
