A slice of Sydney Harbour walked : August 26 2025
Sun came out. A bit slow to fit in a bike and a train trip up the line. Dug around on maps to do something different - head south and walk a slice of Sydney Harbour

Train timetables have not been my friend these last few tries - learning the old art of sitting and waiting

Buy coffee and sit out 9 minutes - target Waverton station and then walk to the harbour

Old style cottage just down from Waverton Station with the North Sydney skyline behind

The garden did offer up orchids in flower

A lot more besides - a mini English country garden in a narrow garden bed

And for completeness - a display of English bluebells

View over Waverton Park - old waterworks it looks like - maybe a bowling club - nice spot on the water. Did walk over it - floods at high tide

View from the park back up to North Sydney skyline - once had shares in RedHat before the dotCom crash

View down to the city across Noakes shipyard - one of the old ferries - South Stetne under repair. Was used for harbour cruises when I arrived here 25 years ago

The history lesson. Too bad I could not walk through the yard to access the footpath along the water I could see on the other side. Up again

Back down to the water at Sawmillers Reserve - yep - on old sawmill. And another dead end

They call this the living seatide wall - a lot of the living is in this old hulk

Part of my motivation for doing these walks is the upcoming 7 Bridges Walk for cancer. The ANZAC bridge with with columns showing - one of the 7

Blues Point tower - a controversial Harry Seidler design - the only high rise this side of the harbour for years

And back across to the more recent controversy - Crown Casino at Barangaroo. Palms greased to build this massive tower on an empty block. In the foreground Sawmillers wharf. Was itching to cross the private beach and access the stairs one can see in front of the wharf building

The double back did yield a unique photo - this a gymea lily. Normally they stand up ton10 metres above ground. This onenhas fallen over and available below head height

View across to both spans of the Harbour Bridge above McMahons Point. A new angle for me

And to end a view across the harbour to the finger wharves of The Rocks
Was a long wait for a ferry. Took a bus from the wharf "wherever you are going". Got out to catch Metro home
Another slice of the harbour walked all done on Seniors travel pricing. No plan - just do.

Orchid photo at home - pink rock orchid - dendrobium kingianum - first for the year
Dinner: Chicken ham and leek and mushroom pasta

I see in the posts that the people there are trying to keep more greenery around their homes so that a beautiful environment can be created.
Old style cottage looks beautiful… 10k is good score …

I can see why Blues Point tower is controversial
Oh yeah! First high rise on the North Shore way taller than anything else and ugly
