Blackbutt Creek becomes my place of peace - RIP Jan : August 29 2025
Going to be a tough day. I had a feeling early on. Went walking early afternoon - out the front door to check local track for orchids
Every time I walk around the edge of the golf course there is a kookaburra. It flew onto the pole on the edge of the course in front of me - and allowed me to take a photo from 3 foot away
Got the phone call just as I got into to the bush - my wife - her father has passed away. She is on the way to hospital to collect his belongings
Been sick in intensive care a few weeks - best place for me to deal with the pain is to do what I like best. Walk the bush and look for orchids
New season orchid is the perfect way to start - been waiting for weeks to see it open. Chiloglottis trapeziformis - dainty wasp orchid.
Front on view showing the column
Challenging photo as the labellum stands about 60 degrees from horizontal. Latin name fits - a man on a trapeze
The full plant - one of 5 in this small segment
Progress update on these two - probably sun orchids - front plant has pushed up a flower spike
Missed these the last two walks - mayfly orchid - acianthus caudatus
Got them better marked for the best walk or next season
The next of the target for today - common ant orchids - one open and one budding side by side
Close up and side on - chiloglottis formicifera - see how the calli splay out across the labellum
Front on view
This one is quite different. More like a Brazillian - chiloglottis trapeziformis
New cluster budding a bit further long - leaves are quite different - these a bit more veined
One more. By now you can tell them apart - common ant orchid
Promise for the coming weeks down near the creek - two sun orchid leaves. Only two so far compared with the 5 last year
Broad leaf geebung showing its buds for this season
Hypericum flower - a little chomped
Yellow pea flower
Walked the whole length of the track to get to supermarket on the way home - spied this greenhood rosette in a spot I have seen greenhoods before
Whoa!! Not a greenhood - a maroonhood - makes for the 2nd new season find for the day. That made my day
Front on view of pterostylis pedunculata - will have to check the records to see if I have seen them on this track
A few rosettes - only two flowers and one nibbled off. This one is seeding
Matching rosette
Location shot - got a feeling a few plants are under the log. Might roll it over next walk
Native violet - not a Seven Mile Beach one. Got to take the photo - my 2nd granddaughter has the name Violette
Did the shopping. Wife got back from hospital and her brother's place. She is shattered
Did a simple chicken tikka masala BBQ for dinner. My emotions are somewhat screwed. I was never able to visit my mother when she was dying thanks to Covid

Whenever I visit such a place, I feel very happy to see such a variety of flowers and plants. Purple flowers are my favorite flower.
