Mayfly orchids in Lane Cove NP and a Mark Carrington get together : September 1 2025
A blue sky day - have an evening engagement - was going to ride the bike down the hill to ride a slice of Lane Cove NP. Got lazy and took the car
Turned out to be a good thing. The road I would normally cycle down is closed. Will have to visit the other side another day. Walked a slice of Great North Walk
Not my favourite walk as bush us somewhat bereft of colour and green - pea flower time
Patersonia iris
Cryptostylis orchid leaves lining up
Lane Cove River still brown after last week's week of rain
Maybe a festival of white - hakea flower
NSW coral heath flower - like a mini trumpet
Snow wreath heath flower
Close up - fluffy and white
Sundew flower - drosera - side on
Front on. Half the size of a US penny
2nd set of mayfly orchids found today. First photos were all blurred. Notable is the tuber like roots showing
One flower showing is on the way out - acianthus caudatus. It is why I always like to find two flowers in case one is out of focus. Did see some chiloglottis orchids showing tubers - also out of focus
Context photos - acianthus orchids growing on a mossy rock
Pea flower
A stunning flash of orange
Not my favourite walk but it is a quiet walk in the rainforest - a fair bit of bird life. Do have to listen to the aircraft flying into Sydney airport up high.
Headed into the city to meet my namesake Mark Carrington. Been friends on Faceobook a while. I wanted to meet as he looks a lot like my brother
Had to meet up to explore the connections
We dug around the background - Yorkshire vs Lincolnshire - one county apart. The weird coincidences kept running. His wife is Leslie - my first was Lesley. We lived in same residence at University of Cape Town. His 2nd name is Anthony - my brother too - named after uncle on my mother's side. He served in SADF after I did but spent some time in the same small base in the Caprivi Strip in what is now Namibia - a tiny village on the Kavango River. Will dig out the family tree from my cousin.
We had a fab night sharing stories with people who are (not) strangers. Was a late night doing Actifit - time zone change needed to make cutoff
Did more work on LaunchJack Dominator launch. All running now - bonus pages on https://mclnks.com/launchjackbonus

Great pics! The mayfly orchids look amazing. 🤩 Glad you found them on your walk! 👍
good company
There are good people on social media too. If we want to be friends with them, they will treat us with complete friendship. All these flowers are looking much more beautiful and interesting.
