My wife headed out to her father's place to tidy stuff upland get things for her brother. She took him along to get things he wanted to have in his new home. Gave me the chance to visit the bush on a
Sunday - took the car to walk an often walked track in North Turramurra

Track work has wiped out a colony of blunt-tipped greenhoods - had me looking further along the fence line last visit - now a big colony of a different greenhood found now flowering

Counted 10 flowers in one spot and another 5 a little along. ID is a challenge - they look like pterostylis oblonga to me - slightly swollen galea

Alt ID is pterostylis erecta

Walked the side track past the side of the old age home - going to be a bonus sun orchid display if mower man stays away - at least 10 budding. Too bad the onion orchids got strimmed as they were forming

Lots of onion flower in the short grass

Sun orchids on fence side - only ever seen them on the bush side

Thelymitra ixioides

Close up

Side on

More spots on this one

Sundew flower - smaller than a US penny

Maybe a different sun orchid - no spots - purple tufts

Maybe thelymitra malvina

Column looks the same - no spots - flower a bit bigger - probably thelymitra ixioides

Patersonia iris

Pea flower was attracting bugs - got one in frame

Continuing with the bugs - one on Syndey boronia

Fungal fun

Took the side track on a mission. Only ever seen waxlip orchids once here - found another

Found the fairy fingers where I have seen them previously - a few flowers here

Side on - caldenia alata

Pink wax flower

Found fairy fingers in a few more spots. More spots than last year

Four in frame - one open and 3 budding

The detail is fab - flower is narrower than a US penny and maybe only 2/3 the width

Budding form - note the hairy bits on the stem

Mission part next - find flying duck orchids - two spikes

None showing in last year spot - followed where the water would take the seeds - found one budding under this fallen branch

Set it free from the branch - will do a lot better now

Kept going down the flow line and found one flowering - flying duck orchid - caleana major

Headed back - budding caldenia alata

Cymbidium suave recovering from some harvesting - no flower spikes yet

Close by is a flying duck orchid site - that brown leaf is one such

Flower spike a little lower down - follow the water flow

One budding with spider

Snake orchid up high - not harvested uo there

Bearded orchid budding

First of the milkmaids flowering

Looks similar - fringe myrtle is my guess

A little further along - colour difference as they age

Found another caladenia glossodia in the open area under the powerlines

More sun orchids in the open

Hibbertia

Budding sun orchids - probably pink sun orchids

More milkmaids - umbrellata burchardia

Starburst flower - my name

Sun orchid on the way back to the car

Side on

Fab pea flower lurking behind the sun orchid

Lovely walk - added two new season orchids and 6 in all

Dinner: Made pulled pork from last week roast

What a beautiful walk that must have been! Discovering orchids like blunt-tipped greenhoods and flying duck orchids sounds so exciting. Nature always has a way of surprising us with its beauty.

I also wish that I could plant every plant I like in my garden and watch them grow before my eyes.
