New orchid with carmine bands for this season : September 15 2025
A blue sky day to reward a night if weird dreams - back to solider times. That stuff was over 50 years ago but it seems ever present. Been kicking around a few walk ideas - needed to pick up a click and collect order. Take the train and walk to the National Park
Took the long way from the station to the bush - grand scout hall in Mt Colah
Another grand old house - maybe from the forties
Found this violet on the way - for my granddaughter whose 💜 name is Violette
Bearded orchid on the road into the park
A flash of yellow was attracting the bugs - the photo is amazing - looks like a bug with no wings
Leptospermum squarrosum
Did the loop into the bush behind the toll gate - surprised to find a waxlip orchid in the bush
Checking on a known snake orchid site - no buds but looking healthy
Hibbertia flower under the powerlines
The big pea flower form
Location shot with a grand scribbly gum
First orchid promise - budding sun orchid
A sunny day. Cannot keep a sun orchid away
A stepped back view of a good head of flowers - thelymitra ixioides
Close up
Found one more waxlip orchid - this one showing the parsons boots - caladenia glossodia
Patersonia iris - a lot showing
Fab detail on this hibbertia - always hard on a bright day
A cluster of leptospermum squarrosum
Pink wax flower with attendant bug
3rd orchid off the day - fairy fingers orchid in a slice of track not seen before - flower is a bit weevill eaten
A few more than one flower - side on shows the distinctive teeth either side the pointy labellem - caladenia alata
Mini flannel flower- at the size of a US penny hard to get focus
Dampiera purpurea
Slender rice flower. Walked down to the dip in the track hoping to find fingers orchids seen last season - none last week
A win - one flower only - caladenia carnea - first time for this season
The carmine bands are key to ID
Mini purple pea flower
Heading back the way I came - sun orchid open - spots on show
A few more variants - fewer spots- different colour hood
Budding bearded orchid
Sun orchid with purple tufts - everything looks like thelymitra ixioides rather than malvina
Bearded orchid just opening
Found this budding pair on the edge of the highway off ramp
Train home. Stopped in Hornsby on the way home to pick up a new chair mat - hard work carrying that to station in the wind
Walk done - huge steps day. Orchids found
Did cook dinner - pasta Alfredo - make a cheesy sauce
Pre-cooked some bacon and mushrooms in butter
Bring together with pasta - serve with grindy black pepper

That sounds like such a peaceful day. The orchids must have been beautiful, and ending it with a home-cooked meal makes it even more special.
