Beach Road and Seven Mile Beach NP orchids for Kids Cancer : October 2 2025

Sure was good not hearing the people above in the early hours. No loo flush. No banging doors. Did get the weird dreams - back being a soldier dreams - those go back a while. My wife headed out to her craft group at 7:30 - took me a while to get moving. But day 2 of Great Cycle Challenge for Kids Cancer said get riding. I did

Photo up to Coolangatta Mountain with the dragon in front of Mountain Ridge Wines

Took the side road down Agars Lane to get downwind on a windy day - a few houses along the way

Great framing up to the tablelands

View across the swamp toward Berry. Too bad the yellow flowers in the field are fire weed = not a good weed. Can only be pulled out or get goats

Been riding past this cottage on Beach Road for 3 years now. Looks like a classic country place

In those 3 years they have not completed the place next door. Getting close. Maybe the crap that is on the front porch will find a place under cover

Took the side road down from Harley Hill - not done that before - a bit closer to Woodhill Mountain. Dead end - turned back

Spied this echidna on road side. Normally they hide when humans approach. Not this guy - he wanted to cross the road

Did the GCC superhero thing and waited till he had crossed the road safely

Next stop the South Beach Access on Seven Mille Beach. Parked the bike and right there was this orchid - painted fingers and all

Paper daisies close by - a bit past their best

Walked one side track - quite a few of these pink orchids. Structure says calaenia catenata. A few things are not consistent - shorter and more round petals, carmine bands between the lobes

Three flowers together - all much the same

They always say colour is not a good indicator for orchid ID - a food example here - deeper pink but all else is the same - no bands either

Pointy fingers vs dumpy fingers. A lot more calli on the labellum and on the front edges. The previous one had none of those

On the edge of the cabbage palm zone - time to turn back

One last check for ID - a few carmine bands. Some calli on the edges of the petals up front

Got a bigger ride done - bigger than the last few months - say 5. Did find new orchids. Did ride further than the day before. Those few extra kms got me close to the 20 kms a day average for Kids Cancer. Donate here https://mclnks.com/kidscancerride

Drove up to Berry Markets - a small country market - good to top up with fruit and veges

Friends came over for dinner. I did fresh left-overs - a few dishes cooked from scratch from left over cuts plus a few defrostees. Worked out well

A good day - longer ride for a while. Survived the wind

There are many benefits of waking up in the morning. When we change our routine and start waking up in the morning, we see the most changes in our health. And when we see these beautiful views, we feel much happier and more relaxed.
