North Turramurra ride for Kids Cancer and orchids : October 17 2025
Tradie arrived to do regrouting of the kitchen and one bathroom. Noise was a bit much to be doing brain work. Got on the bike to do a train-bike-walk. Catch the train up the highway past the dangerous segments, do a walk and cycle back down the tricky bits. Down is good as I can ride as fast as the vehicles

Cycled down to North Turramurra end of Ku-ring Gai Chase NP - looking for specific orchids - the onion orchid is first one such - microtis parviflora

Track been marked unfortunately a marathon run - I went down the right way

Lambertia formosa with a flash of purple behind. The purple is a patersonia iris

The purple in focus

The white kunzea is out. Interesting is I bought a gin pack in the week and nine there was a pack of freeze dried kunzea berries

The photo challenge on the sundew flowers - the base is in focus. Too bad the photo of the flower was out of focus. It is pretty in pink

Lomandra emerging

The trail track headed off to the right dien to Bobbin Head Road - I ignored the wrong way signs and kept going

Was hoping to find pink sun orchids open- strimmer man got those - have to do with these. They are about the same size

Hibbertia bold in yellow

Lots lots of milk maids - burchardia umbrellata

Leafless milkwort - had to look that up

Pale pink form of the kunzea - purple form photo got deleted

Onion orchids with ant presence - seems that ants are the key pollinators. Only works if the other plants are walking distance

A few two tone pea flowers emerging

Leptospermum squarrosum with weevill in attendance

Orchid two for the day - red bearded orchid- calochilus paludosus. The tape is very evident

Walked to the end of the side-side track - one flying duck orchid flowering. Not very happy. When I first found them here there were always half a dozen plants - now just a few

Seeded caladenia alata close by. This year there were many more of these

Part two of the mission - are the snake orchids flowering - yes they are. First flowering after someone trimmed away half the colony last year

I took a lot of different close up plus the shots up the other locations. Who knows where Google hid those between snapping, editing and now. Cymbidium suave - snake orchid

Weevill in action

Did find one more flying duck orchid in a known spot. Last few years also a few plants - this year one today and one two weeks back.

Front on - caleana major

Pink wax flower close to the ground - not many left now

Drumsticks flower - also at the end of their season

Was a Great Cycle Challenge ride - Spiderman was there. You can donate for Kids Cancer at https://mclnks.com/kidscancerride or send me some Hive or HBD and memo gccoz2025 - I will send the cash through

Ride done. Steps got done on a walk to the shops. Dinner was cooked - Pizza

15k steps for a cause and a hundred little wonders along the way. I love catching up with your trail orchids and look up at the one on my shelf wishing they grew in the wild here.
