Snake orchid explore in Ku-ring Gai Chase NP : November 11 2025
Headed out a little earlier to walk Murrua Trail in Ku-ring Gai Chase NP - mission - snake and hyacinth orchids

Illawarra flame tree where I parked the car - signs of summer

Bottle brush flowers - not sure it is local - maybe an import from Western Australia

Tiny flowers - smaller than a US penny - great photo

A flash of yellow - looks like the yellow rush lily I saw the other day

White kunzea - stood a while to capture the bugs flying around

Got one - a native bee perhaps

Red spider grevillea in a track photo

Tear drop flower twins

St Andrews Cross spider with web work done

FB memories said to study these buds. Today was the day. Not orchids as there are several leaves below. Follow on to discover

That tightly packed bud elongates and opens out to this form with a splash of orange

It is a big splash of orange - easy to ID

Side on

Fully open - Christmas bells

Bottle brush

Checked the onion orchids - seeded

Two plants side by side - both seeded

Purple fringe flower - a few going

Dampiera purpurea

Trigger flower

Broad-leafed geebung with one flower open

A cluster of purple fringe lilies

Purple fan flower

Snake orchid in a broken off trunk - supposedly the only orchid that will establish that close to the ground

Banksia shoots forming

Purple kunzea

Leptospermum squarrosum

More purple - narrow-leafed hemigenia

Mini flannel flower

The mission accomplished - saw this flash of green high up and well off track. Did know to be looking off track from last year

Zoomed in from the other side - too high to get close ups. At least 4 metres up. Best look around for one closer to the ground

Found this one - less than two metres above ground

Close up - cymbidium suave - snake orchid

Side on

Conesticks flower

Kept the eyes open for snake orchids - found some.

One more - this one not in a scribbly gum tree

Another flash of yellow - no idea of ID

Walked back to the car. This tree had fallen down from the time I turned and parked. Good thing I had not parked there
Shopped on the way home - key things needed for dinner
Cooked dinner for a friend - salmon sous vide
