Orchids in Seven Mile Beach NP and a bike ride : December 20 2025
Cooking up for a hot day. Went shopping in Nowra to drop donations off. Then a few shopping chores - took 3 shops to get what we wanted. Temperatur was 39C when we left Nowra - a bit warm for a bike ride but I had to do it - orchids to find
It is Christmas - 5 days away - Christmas balls
The noise of cicadas was up - a husk of the little guys
Leaf curling spider. They are a hoot - they slide back into the curl of the leaf. Wait a bit and get legs
Spied this bug - shiny green - it was very sly - kept turning away from a back shot to show the emerald spots
Dipodium punctatum with stem broken off
Did find the slender hyacinth orchid - a few plants flowering but not clustered like previous years
A few angles - dipodium variegatum
Stepped back - healthy looking plant
Front on of the next plant up
A bit of side on. Hard to get focus on the calli on the labellum. Not ready to carry kgs of gear to do that
A flash of white - a pod of some form - maybe a spider egg sac
Australian bluebell - smaller than a US penny
Back to the bugs - St Andrews Cross spider
A leaf curling spider showing a bit more leg
New life on a banksia tree broken off not far above ground
One hyacinth orchid in a new spot on the loop track down to the beach
Always find these - only one today - native violet for my granddaughter Violette
Checked the other end of the track for the hyacinth orchids there - both succumbed before flowering fully
Chose to ride down to beach to avoid a cross street that was a bit squidgy after road work. Too much stone and soft tar. Between the flags swimming
Looking south to Comerong Island
Looking north to Gerroa - a bit of a breeze and somewhat chopped up on a flat sea
First ride in a while - Mad Dogs and Englishmen comes to mind at 33C
Was nice to sit at home under AC with a cold beer. And cooking prawns for dinner for a friend
Storm brewing - did just miss the pink slice in the cloud. Storm did hit but closer to midnight
