Danjera Dam picnic : January 1 2026

Was a late night watching the NYE fireworks. My wife suggested a visit to the newly refurbished picnic area at Danjera Dam - a 45 km drive with two big drops down to creek bed and back up. The last 16 kms was a well made dirt road

A splash of purple on the edge of the big drop. "Be careful" says my wife. I do this all the time when I am out on my own

Drove all the way to picnic area. Walked a side track - evidence of cattle, probably the goats we saw - no orchids likely. Did find an Australian bluebell

Found another - looks like two types - the columns are quite different

Stopped at shops on the way home. The dirt road left a car in need of a wash

Not the normal Coolangatta Mountain shot = not going home time. Did dump the vege scraps for the chickens. It is a good image for the cloudy days we have had. Warm but cloudy

Did wash the car after the 32 kms driving on gravel roads.

Did cook dinner: spaghetti bolognese. Did not use this wine for the little wine needed in the recipe

This wine has a story. It comes from Kelman Vineyard where I had a house. I remember talking with David Lowe our wine consultant when we launched the Chairman's Reserve. He said this is the best wine the vineyard had made. Buy heaps. I did - he is right - still strong 22 years later - a few years yet
