Sydney Harbour and Botanic Garden walk : January 9 2026
What to do on another hot day. Get on a train and head down to Sydney Harbour - always cooler there. Decided to get down to Circular Quay and walk the big loop through to Botanic Gardens along Farm Cove.

A mix of old and new. Do not know what the front building was - Victorian - but I do know the one behind on the left was my first Sydney office. Named after the first governor - Governor Phillip

Portrait view - we had great Harbour views from.the 34th floor. There are plans to put in a 55 storey block above Hunter station

Cut through in front of Customs House bar - getting ready for lunch service

Cruise ship in the harbour. Lots of wheelie suitcases making their way to the ship. Bridge view too

Walked around the water side of the Opera House - lots of people - photo from the other side

Into the Botanic Gardens - bottlebrush flowering strongly and a fab blue sky

Stepped back view of the Opera House with a slice of the bridge

A few more angles on Governor Phillip tower from the water - the big tree is a Norfolk pine used for ship masts

And another view in landscape a bit further along

Walked through the rainforest segment - a good place on a hot day - a few flowers - a splash of purple

A hanger of purple

Cannot tell if this is opening or finishing. Might have to visit more often to find out

This is one I have never seen. A flower emerging from a plant about 6 inches off the ground - looks like a Roman candle firework

I do know what this statue resembles - it is a cassowary found in the rainforests up north. Have been lucky to see them there

A native violet for my granddaughter Violette

Walked out the top gate opposite the NSW Parliament to make my way to the train and the AC
Took the Metro train - popped out at the interchange station to go to a metro supermarket. Saved me a hot walk to our local

It was another hot start - 30C at 11am on the way into the city
Cooked pizza for dinner - needed the capsicum for that

STOPIt's so cold here in our city right now. One of the coldest areas in our country is Murree. The temperature there was low, and last night the temperature in our city dropped to three degrees. So the people here are not used to enduring such cold.
And today we drop in half to 21C - much more pleasant - the ground is soaking up the gentle rain
