Hibiscus intro to Harbour Bridge walk : January 19 2026

A new week. A monster options expiry with close to half a mill of sales. Will be good news if the new Trump tariff ideas crash the markets. Going to take some time to account for that and write it up. Rainy day makes it easy to do that - sit behind the PC and write it up

Weather did clear a bit for an umbrella walk - two tone hibiscus flower might make the theme for the day - two tone

Got the two in this hibiscus - it us a double - downgrades the day to hibiscus day

The third hibiscus makes it a play. Well maybe - as I walked with the umbrella the stormy clouds over Sydney began to break up. As I crossed over the bridge over Killara Station there was a train heading south. Got that - had an urge to walk the harbour

Picked something different - got off at North Sydney to walk down Blues Point Road - good for Harbour Bridge views. This one from just above the station

St Peter's Presbyterian Church

A framed bridge view from Xavier Park

Small drop into Xavier Street changes the perspective on the bridge. Lovely little dead end street walking distance to North Sydney and its station - and the views

Found a path that cuts down to the water - a small slice of rainforest right on the harbour

Path below looks up back to the sandstone walls - the roots had to work hard to reach the ground

Another rope root example in Watt Park - a famous North Sydney luminary - was mayor for a while yonks ago

Time to look up from roots to the sky - maybe 40 metres up and a blue sky. Umbrella not needed

To the water between MacMahons Point and the bridge - great views of the bridge and the city

Swing around a bit for views across to Barangaroo and the imposing presence of Crown Casino

A bit further along view of North Sydney line of apartments into the bridge

Looking back to the path I have walked - a quiet cove and Berrry island to the left

View along Luna Park to the bridge

Clear water view across to Barangaroo

Roller coaster ride about to begin with the bridge behind

Did not know that access to Luna Park is free. Walked in the bottom gate to watch - nit done that in my 25 years here. Was quite a buzz as it is still school holidays

Out the other side past the ferry wharf. Under the bridge to Circular Quay and the passenger terminal - Anthem of the Seas

A small swivel to capture the Opera House

Swing back to capture a ferry passing in front of Barangaroo

Change of angle over the passenger terminal for full view of Circular Quay

Under the bridge for the loop back to the nearest station. This old house up the hill caught my eye from the water

Bridge view from the Eastern side

Know where I am now - botrom of Jeffery Street Kiribilli - no idea if this is a working ferry wharf

View back - I can see the hotel we stayed in on our first nights in Sydney - the brown building on the left. The very tall building on that side was my first office

Was a good model - catch the first train arriving and then construct a walk. Always great to be a tourist in my home city - always a few new things

Stopped at shops on way from station - need beer and gin to preserve the kumquats doing well on our porch

A bit of excitement at home - a big tree fallen down. State Emergency Service called to assess the damage, make safe and make a fix it plan. They did come back later to chop it all up. We have to do the disposal

Last photo has a lesson attached. I struggle with depression. The things I have learned is to make small wins - today it was to repot the ficus in a bigger pot. The others are to get out for a walk or ride and take photos.

No dinner cooking - my wife is not well - she had toast and I did leftovers

If the weather is pleasant like this, it makes me want to walk more and it is also very good for our health. And I also love flowers. Wherever I see them, I definitely take pictures.

Flowers make an easy way to turn a walk into a photo opportunity
