Blackbutt Creek offers first ant orchid for the season : February 3 2026
A frustrating day unfolding. Tried to build a bonus page for a product I am promoting. Using a tool I have used a lot - did nit work the way it has in the past. Cannot find the docs to give away as bonuses. Tried again - found some of the docs but they do not line up with the promise. Going to go back to the old way.
Needed to get out. Decided to walk the local track - maybe an early ant orchid. Found this big flower in the church gardens - my son has them in his garden. I cannot recall the name - view to the nave

Maybe sets the theme for the day - weird flowers. Never seen this one - red flower spike with pokey yellow noses. No idea what it is
Now to the bush - little flowers starting with a native violet for my granddaughter Violette
Next little flower - lobelia. Happy to get a photo in focus - last one was deleted
Back to big flowers - ginger plants just showing. Always a few down this end of Blackbutt Creek. Might be the same genus as the pokey yellow nose
Back to the little flowers - this is supposedly a native but I am going to guess it came from a garden above
Bonnet orchid leaves in a known spot but no flower spikes
This was the mission for the day - chiloglottis leaves forming. Seem a bit behind normal - did not find many leaves
First orchid of the day - bonnet orchid - cryptostylis erecta - not quite in focus
Goodenia flower
This little leaf caught my eye. Chiloglottis orchid just pushing out its leaves. Had a good look in the shady places - found one flower
Common ant orchid it is. First for the season - chiloglottis seminuda. Named as the calli only go half way down the labellum
A few leaves further up the hill. Not as many as previous years
Mushroom season is beginning
Last of the flannel flowers. Ends a successful walk down Blackbutt Creek with the first signs of change of season. Got over 10k steps doing that.
Needed the bush to remember nature and its healing. Two friends did not make it - Susan - wife of a Perot Systems colleague
Jeremy, husband to one of the girls I went out with at university. Had her father not changed her university after her first year, life could have been different. RIP
Did cook dinner - my wife is getting over her cold. Pizza is allowed
