Midge orchids under the powerlines : February 23 2026

The Monday after options expiry turned into a diabolical IT day. Accounting software is either struggling with file size or a dodgy mouse. Keeps repainting the screen when it is in portfolio mode. Took hours to do jobs that should take 5 minutes. Got in the way of a train-bike trip. Got in the car to walk the powerlines

Seems the IT challenges moved onto photo challenges from small flowers

Sundew flower - first sighting this season and a bit out of focus. The flower is half the size of a US penny

Zoomed into the show the plant - comes with dry weather well and happy to be in wet zones

Mini flannel flower - aconitiflorus minor - focus is good enough

Second type of sundew flower - quite a different plant - also tiny

The mission was midge orchids - found these seeded fringed midge orchids under those powerlines. One bud is in focus

Hibbertia flower

NSW coral heath flower - good enough focus to find the ant

Was surprised to find conesticks flowers open. They are finished on the other tracks - this one finishing

Peach-flowered tea tree - find the ant

A softer shade of pink. Ant is easier to find

Took time to capture the bee - it is in focus

A few pea flowers still going

Keeping the yellow theme for now - a different hibbertia

Found one more seeded fringed midge orchid. Disappointed to not find other varieties I have seen in prior years. Track work set them back 2 seasons back

Banksia flower - no leaves to confirm ID. Probably banksia serratum

Tear drop flower (my name) just unfolding. Normally see them open fully. This is in the violet family. Another for my granddaughter Violette
