Day 2 - Shoalhaven Heads to Cann River - hard drive : March 11 2026

Let the road trip proper begin with a visit with my son on the way. Spent 45 minutes there - my granddaughters were fab. "Daddyman, come see", says Scarlett. Got to hold her sister too.

Did the drive in two hour stints from there - road works made for a busy exit from Batemans Bay. Highlands are looking super green. View across there in Bodalla

I like stopping there - good cheese shop and tables behind looking out over the valley

Village has a bit of everything for the passer by

Two hour stint to reach the fishing harbour town of Eden. Never driven down to the wharf. Great colour between sea and sky

Did hear a bad clunking noise going over the speed humps - stopped at fuel fill up to check. The fitting that holds the bike onto the roof rack had come out of its rails. Luckily, no damage.

Did walk side tracks to check for orchids - no evidence. Have seen a lot of these along the road. Needed the break - tough drive on the winding road between Bega and Eden

Overnight stop in Cann River not far over the Victoria border. Some change since my last visit - supermarket and bottle shop are now closed. Had to buy a snack in the petrol station

Luckily, the pub was open and serving meals. No meals last time - had to use supermarket for food.

Dinner was a good chicken stir fry with lots of veges and a little spice.

Notable feature- price if petrol has sky-rocketed. Today, fill was 20c a litre more than the day and that was 50c more too. Ouch
