Day 4 road/bike trip Korumburra to Cowes : March 13 2026

Day one of the Gippsland Gambol bike ride starts at the old station in Korumburra. Took the car down to park for a week and cycled up the hill to Korumburra station

Good to see the sun out a bit after the overnight rain - fab colours

Group photo - against the rail trail and station background

Great Southern Rail Trail

Station from the front with rail trail on show

Easy riding along the ridge line with views down to the valley below - just starting to green up

Alpacas observing

Grand old homestead on a folding valley view with rail trail in shot

First trestle bridge carrying the road up above

Stopped in Loch for coffee - grand old building now housing a brewery and distillery. The end of the GSRT for today - onto roads to wend our way to the sea

Quiet zig zag of roads to Kernot - surprised to find a cafe/restaurant open in a community with just a few houses.

Start the drop down to the sea - zoom in and you will find a ship around the building roof. Onto Bass Rail Trail at the bottom of the hill

View from the valley back to where we rode from

Lunch stop under these trees - view up the rail trail back to the hills

Not exactly connoisseur lunch - salami sticks, cheddar cheese, baked beans sandwich

Lunch view down to the sea

A mix of road and dirt bike path from the end of the rail trail to the bridge to Phillip Island from San Remo

A bit of a slog along paved bike paths the 15 kms to Cowes. Boune over the slab joints, noisy traffic from the road, hedges obstruct the views. Pleased to get to the caravan park on the beach

Longest ride for many months - one tricky moment when bike went off track onto the grass - took a big yank to get it back. Did stay upright - whew!!

Showered - cycled to town to get a beer. Met up with the crew for dinner over the way. Good dinner and a ride home in the dark

Really impressive Actifit report I have come across yet.
Energy and persistence conquer all things," said Benjamin Franklin. This is my main thought for the day. Sometimes we try to rush results, but just staying consistent and keeping the energy high is what actually gets us to the finish line. Hope everyone is having a steady and productive day!
