Shoalhaven Heads river scenes - a few days away : March 30 2026
My wife has taken a few days off work. So we are heading South until after Easter. Will stop on the way to visit her brother. Time to get moving. Walked up to the shops to get the repair on my phone checked - the lens cover has fallen off. Luckily it fell where I could see it. Been covered in a zip lock bag. We left a little after midday. Good visit with Paul - no photos.

Enough daylight after unpacking to take the bike for a ride down to the beach and the river. Perfect day for the view down to Point Perpendicular

Looking North to Gerroa

Rode down to the river for a few shots. View across to the island with a few birds in attendance. Sacred ibis - a seagull or two - and the star of the show - curlew

Native violet where I parked my bike - for my granddaughter Violette

Looking down to flathead corner - tide turning higher - getting the itch to fish. Did renew the fishing licence

Challenging light for shots of Coolangatta Mountain with a huge sun flare

Landscape shot chopping the sun out

Easier shots up the river. This one downstream back to the island.

Looking up the river across the light - worked just fine

Ride done. Got the steps over 10k with a small walk added.

Will be giving pickleball a go. Ordered the shoes this week. Will see if they let me play in my sandals on Thursday on the open day. Time to add some social activity to what I do solo
Did cook dinner - stir fry rice - no photos

What a wonderful way to ease into a few days off—heading south with your wife, a stop to see family, and already making the most of the daylight once you arrived. There's something special about a trip where the first thing you do is grab the bike and head down to the water. That ride to the beach and the river sounds like the perfect way to reset. And I love that you took in the details along the way: the curlew stealing the show, the native violet waiting by your bike for your granddaughter Violette—those little moments are what turn a simple ride into a lasting memory.
Also, big respect for renewing the fishing licence and gearing up for pickleball. It's exciting to see you leaning into new rhythms—balancing the solo pursuits with something social. There's a real energy in that. Sandals or not on Thursday, just showing up with that willingness to try something new says it all. Wishing you smooth roads, calm waters, and a few good bites over the coming days. Enjoy every bit of it.
