Bunny orchids and sharp greenhoods in Ku-ring Gai Chase NP: April 17 2026

Heard from a friend that bunny orchids were showing on the Mt Colah side of Ku-ring Gai Chase NP. Took the train to do the walk in - a bit lazy to get the bike ready. Smart move would have been to get the bike ready

A bit of house stuff on the walk from the station. Old cottage for sale

This is what is coming. Sad - this is a small suburb squeezed between the railway line and the highway. It has a public primary school. Will be taken over

A few garden flowers on the way to the bush - NSW waratah

WA gum nut flowers

Into the bush - 20 minute walk in - pea flowers

Grey spider grevillea

My friend promised me bunny orchids. Found the first where the midge orchids grow

Front on shot - hard to ID - need to see the leaf to know

Was also a banksia day

Double header

Leaf shot - purple colouring and size confirms ID - eriochilus cucullatus - Parsons Band orchid

NSW coral heath flower and bugs

Camera did not want to focus on the bug but OK on the flower

Back to banksia time

Was really a white flower day - sundew flower. Also showing the spindly forms of the flower spike

A few lambertia formosa still going

Peach-flowered tea tree with an ant - always an ant

Milkwort flower to break the white theme

Back to the white theme - epacris

Purple fringe lily - a bit late but did find two

Walked down the Kalkari Track - found another bunny orchid - maybe the same as the others

Leaf does not have the purple vein

Double header - quite a few flowers here

Leaf is tiny and not purple underneath

Will study the photos a bit more but the leaf tells its own story

It is tiny - thinking eriochilus petricola

As I walked in had to walk out - found sharp greenhoods in a place not seen before

Pterostylis acuminata - not seen them this high above the watercourse

Side on showing labellum

Picked up stuff from post office. Walked back to shops to get stuff for tomorrow - my brother-in-law coming to stay for the weekend.
