Back for orchid recce ride/walk in Seven Mile Beach NP : April 23 2026
Some times the dreams are so graphic. Was walking a path walked a lot of times. Then it was dark - could not find my way. Scary like those cop shows. Bang went the sliding door from the apartment above. I knew exactly where I was - living one floor below bitch face sho slams her sliding door any time from 4am. Good news is we are heading South for the weekend for 4 nights away. No sliding doors - sorry Gwyneth Paltrow

Had a good trip with light traffic. Had fish and chips for lunch. Enough time to ride and walk Seven Mile Beach. The first violet I see gets snapped for my granddaughter Violette

Acianthus orchid. Normally the leaf does not leave the ground until the plant is pollinated. Hard to tell as the flowers have not opened yet - a self job ahead of opening

Walks are also recce walks - what is coming along. Two orchid leaves here - acianthus and corybas

Budding corybas - can just make out the spots - maybe a week to go to fully open

I had noticed some track tidying up has happened. Kind of interested as this track has never been tidied up. Tree falls and the bike riders find a path around. Not today. What intrigued me was no vehicle tracks

Fab afternoon light for a fungal flourish

Another sampling of acianthus leaves above ground with no flowers - 3 in shot

The art of orchid spotting is identifying the leaves - 3 in shot. Heart shape - acianthus. Rounder shape single leaf - corybas. Rosette on the ground - pterostylis

A fee different pterostylis rosettes seen. Small narrower leaf

A few mushrooms - this one pushing up in the sandy track

A flower spike on this greenhood

As close to an acianthus flower for the day. Leaf well off the ground

Mini mushroom form plus an orchid leaf. Did meet the man who was clearing the track. He wants to ride his bicycle here with his kids. Clearing stuff as a labour of love. Parks on the main road and walks in - hence - no vehicle tracks

Shared with him a few orchid shots - this one is a nodding greenhood. Slightly bigger leaf with a longer pedicel

See the difference - smaller leaf and short pedicels

And this - more ovate leaf with ruffled edges

Back to mushrooms

And more

Did find a budding greenhood - pterostylis concinna or oblonga - will know in two weeks at next visit

Matching rosettes

A fee flower spikes - a week to go

Silver top mushroom

One more budding greenhood. Good to see so many coming along as last season was not as promising

Budding helmet orchid to round out the day. A bit dark to find a spot where I knew there would be flowers. Tomorrow is another day for them
