Aunque tenía mucha fe de que el Atlético de Madrid pudiera ser uno de los equipos que llegará a instancias decisivas, paso lo que más normalmente pasa, el equipo del Cholo Simeone decepcionó, quedando eliminado en la fase de grupos, y aunque podamos excusar un poco el resultado final, pues quedo emparejado con el actual campeón de la Champions League, el PSG, que los destrozó con un categórico 4 a 0, así como con el actual campeón de la Copa Libertadores, el Botafogo, lo cierto es que su rendimiento general, fue muy flojo.
