Luego de minimizar al Chelsea en la primera fecha de Champions, se tenían muchas expectativas en los alemanes, y las cumplieron con creces, pues visitando al Pafos de Chipre, una de las sorpresas de la primera fecha de la Champions League al sacarle un empate al Olympiacos, con todo y que se quedaron con un hombre menos antes de la media hora de juego, pero ante los bávaros, la lógica prevaleció y el Bayern Munich consiguió una contundente victoria 1 a 5.
