Con el parón navideño de las principales competiciones europeas, estuve revisando tanto la Europa League como la Conference League, pues siempre podemos encontrar clubes con historias muy interesantes, así como jugadores que podrían estar próximos a dar el salto a un gran equipo del Viejo Continente. Equipos como el Midtjylland noruego o el Ferencvarosi húngaro están llamando la atención en la Europa League por su excelente rendimiento hasta ahora, pero fue un equipo polaco de la Conference League quien llamó mi atención.

With the Christmas break in the major European competitions, I've been checking out both the Europa League and the Conference League, as you can always find clubs with fascinating histories, as well as players who might be on the verge of making the leap to a big club in Europe. Teams like Norway's Midtjylland and Hungary's Ferencváros are attracting attention in the Europa League for their excellent performance so far, but it was a Polish team in the Conference League that caught my eye.

El Rakow Czestochowa esta siendo la gran revelación de la Conference League, la tercera competición en importancia de Europa, y es que con la finalización de la fase de grupos, terminó increíblemente en la segunda posición de la tabla, con 4 victorias y 2 empates. Para poner en mejor contexto esto, equipos como el Crystal Palace, el Rayo Vallecano o el Shakhtar Donetsk se encuentran por debajo en la clasificación, mientras que otros como el Legia Varsovia, el Slovan Bratislava o el Dinamo de Kiev ya están eliminados.

Rakow Czestochowa has been the surprise package of the Conference League, Europe's third-tier competition. With the group stage complete, they incredibly finished second in the standings, boasting four wins and two draws. To put this into perspective, teams like Crystal Palace, Rayo Vallecano, and Shakhtar Donetsk are all below them in the standings, while others such as Legia Warsaw, Slovan Bratislava, and Dynamo Kyiv have already been eliminated.

El buen desempeño de los Medaliki no ha pasado por alto de los grandes equipos de Polonia, pues el Legia Varsavia, que actualmente está en una crisis de resultados, eliminado en la Conference y en puestos de descenso en la liga polaca, hace 1 semana aproximadamente fichó a su técnico, el también polaco Marek Papszun. Medaliki's strong performance hasn't gone unnoticed by Poland's top clubs. Legia Warsaw, currently struggling with poor results, eliminated from the Conference and in the relegation zone of the Polish league, hired their coach, fellow Pole Marek Papszun, about a week ago. Papszun had previously led Rakow Czestochowa to both the cup and league titles in 2023, and after a brief hiatus to focus on his mental health, he returned to the team in 2024.

Algo mediamente positivo que podemos sacar de todo esto, es que el Rakow Czestochowa no jugará competiciones oficiales hasta febrero, con un par de amistosos en el mes de enero, lo que ayudará al nuevo técnico a adaptarse a su nuevo plantel, buscando al menos, mantener el nivel que han mostrado hasta los momentos.

One somewhat positive thing we can take from all this is that Rakow Czestochowa will not play official competitions until February, with a couple of friendlies in January, which will help the new coach adapt to his new squad, seeking at least to maintain the level they have shown so far.

Viendo el panorama en Conference League, hay equipos en la zona media de la tabla como el Crystal Palace, la Fiorentina o el AZ Alkmaar, así como otros equipos de un nivel más regular, por lo que si tienen un poco de suerte, puede que avancen de octavos de final, lo que para un equipo humilde de Polonia, debería ser una temporada cuando menos, exitosa.

Looking at the Conference League landscape, there are mid-table teams like Crystal Palace, Fiorentina, and AZ Alkmaar, as well as other more consistent teams, so if they have a bit of luck, they might advance from the round of 16, which for a humble team from Poland should be at least a successful season.
