El Wrexham AFC era uno de esos equipos olvidados entre las categorías semiprofesionales del fútbol inglés, pues desde la temporada 2009/10 jugaban en la National League, la cuarta división de este sistema de ligas, teniendo su última oportunidad real de ascender en el 2012. La historia de este club gales es bastante interesante, pues es de los equipos más antiguos del mundo, jugando en el sistema inglés desde el año 1864, además de que su estadio, el Racecourse Ground, fue inaugurado en 1807, albergando el primer juego internacional de la selección de Gales, lo que lo hace en un club más que interesante.

Algo importante que hay que resaltar, es que el equipo siempre mantuvo la mente táctica detrás de todo este proceso, el inglés Phil Parkinson, quien supo adaptar sus esquemas de juego a las diferentes categorías, logrando un ascenso de categoría al año. A diferencia de lo que uno pensaría de entrada, su estilo de juego es más propositivo, con transiciones rápidas y mucho juego por la bandas, generalmente utilizando dos delanteros en punta, uno como una clara referencia en el área, mientras que el otro un poco más retrasado, sirviendo como apoyo, mientras que en fase defensiva no hay nada oculto, ya que se basa en acumulación de jugadores en el tercio final.

Otra cosa que me ha llamado la atención es la pérdida de la columna vertebral del equipo con la que inició todo este proyecto, manteniéndose pocos jugadores como Max Cleworth o Elliot Lee, quien se está recuperando de una grave lesión de rodilla.

La verdad veo muy complicado que este año logren el boleto directo a la Premier League, sobre todo porque veo a equipos más regulares, pero no podemos negar el gran trabajo que han hecho hasta los momentos, pues no sólo el área deportiva ha mejorado, también su imagen y marca se ha hecho global, pues para la película Deadpool vs Wolverine, Ryan Reynolds utilizó a uno de sus futbolistas, el goleador Paul Mullin para interpretar a Welshpool, una versión gales del personaje. Todo esto hace este club en un muy interesante, y viendo como están haciendo las cosas, cuidado en lo que se puedan convertir de la mano de Deadpool en unos años!
Frankly, I think it's very unlikely they'll achieve direct promotion to the Premier League this year, especially since I see more consistent teams. However, we can't deny the great work they've done so far. Not only has their performance improved, but their image and brand have also gone global. For example, in the movie Deadpool vs. Wolverine, Ryan Reynolds used one of their players, striker Paul Mullin, to play Welshpool, a Welsh version of the character. All of this makes this club very interesting, and seeing how they're doing things, watch out for what they could become with Deadpool at the helm in a few years!
