La irrelevancia y devaluación de la Copa Oro / The irrelevance and devaluation of the Gold Cup
Con el inicio del mundial de clubes, y luego de ver un gran duelo entre el Palmeiras y el Oporto, donde me parece que los brasileños tal vez merecieron un poco más que el empate a 0, revisando los siguientes partidos del torneo me percate de que también se estaba jugando la Copa Oro, y no sólo eso, la misma también se está jugando en suelo norteamericano.

Pero es todavía más loco, que la MLS no parará y gran parte de la próxima jornada se jugará, con hasta 10 partidos el 25 de junio, que corresponden a la jornada 19, y a partir de aquí, la jornada 20 seguirá su rumbo casi de forma ininterrumpida sólo 3 días después, lo que demuestra nuevamente lo devaluado que está la Copa Oro, que ni por ella, se suspenderá la liga local. Otra duda que me genera son los estadios, pues donde se jugará el mundial de clubes, no serán sede de estas jornadas de la MLS.

Del torneo tengo algunos pocos recuerdos muy buenos, sobretodo una final entre México y Estados Unidos, donde vi uno de los mejores gol de la historia, con una vaselina de Giovanni Dos Santos a Tim Howard, el mejor portero norteamericano según mi concepto, que no sólo sellaba una remontada épica de los aztecas luego de ir 2 a 0 en el marcador, sino que además les dió aquella Copa Oro.
I have a few very good memories from the tournament, especially a final between Mexico and the United States, where I saw one of the best goals in history, a lob from Giovanni Dos Santos on Tim Howard, the best North American goalkeeper in my opinion, which not only sealed an epic comeback by the Aztecs after being 2-0 down on the scoreboard, but also gave them that Gold Cup.
Pero con el pasar de los años, eso fue cambiando, de los últimos 10 años, la verdad no tengo idea de quien ha sido campeón o al menos alguna anécdota que sea relevante, más allá de que a nivel general, México ya no es el mejor equipo de Concacaf, Estados Unidos ha tenido un crecimiento increíble y que Canadá está tratando de meterse y romper en duopolio en la confederaciones.
But over the years, that has changed. In the last 10 years, I honestly have no idea who has been champion or at least any relevant anecdotes, beyond the fact that, on a general level, Mexico is no longer the best team in CONCACAF, the United States has had incredible growth, and Canada is trying to break into and break the duopoly in the confederations.
Esa falta de relevancia la vemos finalmente consolidada con esta edición, ya que ni siquiera es el torneo más importante que se juegue en Estados Unidos este verano, y en comparación a toda la publicidad y el papel mediático que ha tenido el Mundial de Clubes, la Copa Oro realmente se siente como intrascendente, y es tanto así, que hasta la misma FIFA dio prioridad a los jugadores para poderse ausentar de sus selecciones y jugar con sus clubes, algo de lo que realmente no recuerdo si ha sucedido anteriormente.
That lack of relevance is finally consolidated with this edition, since it is not even the most important tournament to be played in the United States this summer, and compared to all the publicity and media coverage that the Club World Cup has had, the Gold Cup really feels inconsequential, so much so that even FIFA gave priority to players being able to miss their national teams and play with their clubs, something that I really don't remember if it has happened before.
