Sassuolo se aleja de la zona baja, pero aún está lejos de Europa / Sassuolo moves away from the relegation zone, but is still far from European qualification
Hace un par de meses hable del Sassuolo, un equipo que me gustaba mucho en la década pasada en la Serie A, pues tenía una idea de juego diferente al Catenaccio, que aunque lo hacía recibir muchos goles, también tenían capacidad ofensiva para marcar, haciendo que sus partidos fueran muy entretenidos. Este año volvieron a la élite italiana, y tengo que decir, no lo están haciendo nada mal.
A couple of months ago I talked about Sassuolo, a team I really liked in Serie A last decade. They had a different style of play than Catenaccio, which, although it caused them to concede a lot of goals, also gave them the attacking prowess to score, making their matches very entertaining. This year they returned to the Italian top flight, and I have to say, they're doing quite well.
En ese momento, comenté que no esperaba una clasificación del equipo a Europa, pues la competencia por los puestos de la punta era feroz, pero luego de la victoria este viernes frente al Hellas Verona, no sólo se meten en la octava posición, sino que se acercan al Como, que actualmente ocupa la última plaza a competiciones europeas, aunque eso así, aún están a 7 puntos, con un partido más jugado. El otro dato interesante es que son el único equipo en la zona media alta que cuentan con una diferencia de gol negativa, así como que tienen más goles anotados que otros 12 equipos de la competición.
At the time, I commented that I didn't expect the team to qualify for Europe, as the competition for the top spots was fierce. However, after Friday's victory against Hellas Verona, they not only moved into eighth place but also closed the gap on Como, who currently hold the last European qualification spot. Even so, they are still seven points behind, having played one more game. Another interesting fact is that they are the only team in the upper mid-table with a negative goal difference, and they have scored more goals than 12 other teams in the competition.
Como ya ha venido siendo costumbre en la última década, el alma del equipo, Domenico Berardi, no sólo es el goleador del equipo, con 7 tantos, sino que además es el jugador más peligroso y un himno a la fidelidad y amor hacia un club. Otro jugador que me ha impresionado es Tarik Muharemovic, que pese a jugar en un equipo que la defensa no es su principal fuerte, ha tenido un buen rendimiento, marcando un par de goles y dando un par de asistencias, pero destacando sobre todo en su solidez, siendo una de las pocas razones de que su equipo no haya recibido aún más tantos en contra.
As has become customary over the last decade, the heart and soul of the team, Domenico Berardi, is not only the team's top scorer with seven goals, but also its most dangerous player and a symbol of loyalty and love for the club. Another player who has impressed me is Tarik Muharemovic, who, despite playing for a team whose defense isn't its strongest point, has performed well, scoring a couple of goals and providing a couple of assists, but standing out above all for his solidity, being one of the few reasons his team hasn't conceded even more goals.
Fabio Grosso ha conseguir transformar a su equipo, dándole cualidades de varios de los mejores equipos en el continente, pues realizan muy bien las transiciones rápidas y los contragolpes, siendo capaces de realizar tenencias de balón largas, o incluso rechazando esta. El apartado defensivo es un dolor de cabeza, pues su principal arma es la presión adelantada, lo que provoca que dejen muchos espacios a la espalda de los defensas, y cuando juegan en un sistema con bloque bajo, tampoco mejora demasiado la cosa.
Fabio Grosso has managed to transform his team, giving them qualities from several of the best teams on the continent. They execute quick transitions and counter-attacks very well, maintaining possession for extended periods, even clearing the ball effectively. Defensively, however, they are a headache, as their main weapon is high pressing, which leaves a lot of space behind the defenders. And when they play with a low block, things don't improve much.
Otro punto a favor es la buena racha que han tenido frente a equipos por debajo en la zona de clasificación, donde en sus últimos 5 partidos contra estos conjuntos, han ganado 4 juegos y empatado 1, consiguiendo buenos resultados como esta reciente goleada contra el Hellas Verona o un 1 a 3 frente al Pisa como visitante. Lo negativo, es que justamente entre estos partidos, se han enfrentado hasta con 4 equipos de la zona alta, consiguiendo solo derrotas, con un par de goleadas en contra incluidas.
Another positive is their good run against teams below them in the standings. In their last five matches against such sides, they've won four and drawn one, achieving impressive results like the recent thrashing of Hellas Verona and a 3-1 away win against Pisa. On the downside, they've also faced four top-of-the-table teams during this period, suffering only defeats, including a couple of heavy losses.
Esta ha sido la dinámica que se ha observado en la temporada, siendo hasta los momentos un empate 2 a 2 contra el Milan o el destrozo 0 a 3 a la Atalanta al inicio de la Serie A, los mejores resultados del lustro. Por Coppa Italia si quedaron eliminados en las primeras rondas, luego de encajar un 3 a 0 contra el Como de Cesc Fabregas, por lo que prácticamente toda la atención de los de Grosso esta en hacer una buena liga.
This has been the trend observed throughout the season, with their best results so far being a 2-2 draw against Milan and a 3-0 thrashing of Atalanta at the start of Serie A. They were eliminated in the early rounds of the Coppa Italia after suffering a 3-0 defeat against Cesc Fabregas' Como, so Grosso's team is now almost entirely focused on having a good league season.
El aura que tiene este club es una de las razones que me esta llevando a disfrutar nuevamente de la Serie A, y aunque se que necesitarían un milagro a la escala del Leicester City en el 2016 para, al menos poder luchar por el título liguero, siempre es algo positivo tener equipos con esta ideología y proyecto deportivo, pues aunque estos últimos años los clubes italianos se han vuelto más competitivos, ciertamente su forma de jugar no me atraía, o al menos no hasta esta temporada.
The aura surrounding this club is one of the reasons I'm enjoying Serie A again, and although I know they would need a miracle on the scale of Leicester City in 2016 to at least be able to fight for the league title, it's always a positive thing to have teams with this ideology and sporting project, because although Italian clubs have become more competitive in recent years, their style of play certainly didn't appeal to me, or at least not until this season.
