How Will Arsenal Handle AFCON Blow?

Arsenal is desperate to secure European football for next season after spending big to rebuild the squad. Missing out on Europe again will impact the club financially but also make it less attractive for certain players to stay and others who would want to sign may be reluctant as they won't get European football.

Arsenal have been pushing to secure their top four space and it looks like they have what it takes but it's still a long haul towards the end of the season. A trek that could be even more trecahrous now tht the AFCON rolls around in January.

Many teams with African players will have to chop and change but of the teams fighting for top four I think Arsenal will suffer the most having Mohamed Elneny of Egypt, Thomas Partey of Ghana, Nicolas Pepe for Ivory Coast, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to captain Gabon) all set to leave for the month-long tournament.

Even if some of these teams do get kicked out early and players can return it might not be as quick as we think with all the travel restrictions we have these days.

Arsenal has already dropped Pepe and Auba so that shouldn't be too big of a miss if we have no additional injuries during that time but Parety will surely be a big miss in the midfield.

Leaving Xhaka to partner with either Lakonga or Maitland-Niles isn't the most reassuring midfield pair you'll ever see put on the red kit.

Arsenal will face a north London derby and two tricky ties against Liverpool in January for the league cup semi-final, beating Liverpool will see our progress to the final and it will be interesting to see how sharp Liverpool will be without Mane and Salah.

If we can 1 up Liverpool and make it to the final with this young team I will be so chuffed with the lads.
