Arsenal Need To Sort Out Left Back

Since Kieran Tierny has been injured Arsenal have not been able to win a game and it's no surprise having their only replacement in Tavares not able to fill in, Tavares can go forward like Kolasinac but he is awful when it comes to positioning and defending. He would be more suited to Arsenal playing in a back 5 than a back 4.

I would personally look to moving into a back 3 with

• White - Holding - Gabriel

Then going for a 4 and 3 being

• Saka, Xhaka, Sambi, Cedric

• Smith Rowe, Martinelli, Pepe

As much as Lacazette does some great unselfish work, he doesn't even look like he's going to score and since we don't really cross the ball, I don't see why Martinelli shouldn't play upfront and let Pepe and Smith Rowe take up the wide positions.

Saka and Cedric can supply the width allowing smith Rowe and Pepe to cut inside and with Xhaka sitting deep in front of the back 3 we would have more structure if they break on us.

Sambi is not a great passer but he sure is a good ball carrier who in a back 3 can be allowed to push forward at certain opportunities to overload the box.

If Mikel wants to keep the 4 - 2 - 3 - 1

I think it will cost him dearly to try to stick to a 4 at the back, he just doesn't have reliable personnel, if Tomiyasi was back they could push Cedric to left-back and give it a try but that's not happening.

I think it shows the limitations of the current squad having 3 first-teamers injured has the team fall into a dry patch. I would say Arsenal would need 2 central midfielders and 2 strikers at least, if they are going to try and improve next season, especially if they do luck in and quality for Europe.
