Eddie Gets A New Deal

Eddie has been with Arsenal since he was 14, and at the age of 18 moved into the first team making 92 first-team appearances and scoring 23 goals since his first-team debut in 2017. At the age of 22 he had a decision to make, move on from Arsenal in search of regular first-team football or sign on longer to fight for a place in the team.

Mikel giving him a new contract I feel is due to the lack of ablity to secure a striker, the Jesus deal is dragging on longer than expected and we've had several strikers offers to fall through, so Nkeita could be a beneficiary of the situation.

The only competition he faces right now comes from Martinelli, Bereith, Balogun and Edwards who are all younger than him and don't look like they'll be getting first-team spots. Apart from Balogun and Martinelli, none of those options have played first-team football, and even so, Balogun and Martinelli while talented have not shown enough to expect they can lead the Arsenal line.

While it's great for him personally to bag a deal with the Arsenal, I feel it shows a lack of ambition, short of him turning around and bagging 20+ goals for the next 4 seasons in a row, I don't see a point to this deal.

I also find it strange that a club of Arsenal's size would get to a situation where their only striker is a 22-year-old from the youth team. What do the recruiters do all day?

Rumour has it they've offered him a £100,000-per-week deal for five years that works out to a total of £26 million on him and they've given him the number 14 held by Auba and made famous by Henry and Walcott in recent years.

Do I think he is as good as any of those 3? Absolutely not, but I hope he proves me wrong.
