When it comes to central midfield Arsenal are pretty bare bones, it's really only Partey and Xhaka who are both now moving into their 30s marshaling the center of the park, and working on replacements is going to be key to keep momentum. I think Ainsley and Elneny will be sold come to the end of the season and this season could be make or break for Lakonga, who will either cement a place or be shipped out on loan or sold.

That leaves up to 3 possible spots open in the center to bring in reinforcements. In a strange coincidence, 3 previous Arsenal targets, all in their mid 20s are now on free transfers and could be perfect to snap up, save on budget and improve the squad.

Youri Tielemans

The Belgian international was heavily linked with a move to Arsenal and Manchester United in the summer transfer window, The 25-year-old is still a reported target for both clubs, but the Foxes wanted far too much for someone with 1 year left and I think that was the deal breaker. Now that agreeing on a fee isn't an issue, could a new deal be worked on coming Jan or for the end of the season?

Douglas Luiz

Having worked with Arteta at Man city I think this deal is far more likely than the other 2.

Houssem Aouar

It feels as though the Gunners are linked with Aouar almost every transfer window, but this time, a move could really happen. Lyon is typically tough negotiator, but with his contract soon to expire they may not have a choice now though.

Aouar is not without admirers in La Liga and the EPL and Newcastle seems keen to bring him in as a partner to Bruno who was also at Lyon. No doubt all 3 would bring some serious steel and skill to an Arsenal midfield though.
