Another Win Against A Stubborn PSV

Arsenal continue their winning ways with another home victory against PSV tonight, again not a vintage performance for the Gunners but they were still able to walk away with a result. Xhaka grabs his fourth goal for the season with a sweetly struck half-volley and PSV didn't threaten much during the match.

Arsenal rested a few players in Odegaard, Ramsdale, Saliba, and Martinelli, but otherwise started a strong side. European football could be a distraction for a club with a shallow squad but for Arsenal, leaders of the Premier League at home and leaders of their Europa League group look like a chance to give certain players extra game time.

After overcoming a doggedly defensive PSV Eindhoven, they have now won four games out of four and fringe players such as Matt Turner, Rob Holding, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Albert Sambi Lokonga and Fabio Vieira have had meaningful game time. The genuine prospect of silverware makes Thursday evening football a worthwhile endeavor for Arsenal and gives fringe players a chance to push for league starts.

PSV lead by former United Striker Ruud van Nistelrooy, are in good form a point behind leaders Ajax in the Dutch Eredivisie and fresh from a 6-1 hammering of Utrecht at the weekend, PSV are Arsenal’s trickiest opponents in a weak Group A, but were still able to navigate this tie. Of course, the home league in Holland will be a lot tougher, but Arsenal maintains their 100% record and one step closer to the knock out stages.
