The Gunners Drop Points In First Draw Of The Season

Arsenal were held to their first draw of the season away at St Mary's today with a disappointing result dropping 2 points from what many would say was a winnable game and what's worse is they took the lead early on and should have put this game to bed in the first half.

Granit Xhaka gave the Gunners an early lead with his second goal in as many games, sweeping the ball into the net from Ben White's low delivery after some good work on the wing from Saka.

Odegaard did manage to get the ball into the net with a powerful finish from Kieran Tierney's cut-back but it chalked off, with replays clearly showing the ball had gone behind before the Scotland full-back could wrap his foot around it enough by the tiniest of margins.

Arsenal had 12 shots at goal with only 3 on target and wasn't able to break Southampton down again after they reverted to a back 5, the Saints eventually grew into the game and pushed for an equaliser which they got and Arsenal really looked tired.

Arsenal looked tired in the second half and I think the PSV game had something to do with it, which isn't an excuse there is a big enough squad to rotate players, but Mikel didn't manage his team well enough. Jesus while working hard has not been able to score in ages and Nketiah looks like he is growing tired of not getting his chance.

I would have liked to see Arsenal really go for it in the second hald early ona nd put the game to bed, but they played a patient game thinking they could break Southampton down eventually.

Now on to Notts, who just beat Liverpool and it's looking more like a game that will not be the predicted walk over.
