Board Games
Weekend-Engagement 159

I have to be honest with all of you! I don't play any physical sports! I am totally useless in basketball, volleyball, badminton, and any physical sport you can think of! Why? Perhaps, It is because I never was exposed to these when I was a kid, or maybe I just do not have the skills needed for these activities like endurance, agility, speed, and reaction time.

However, this post is about board games which is my game. I always enjoy playing different board games because for me they are totally fun minus the catching of breath and the excessive sweating. It is fun because of the times you are playing individually therefore there are less chances that you will be blamed for losing. It is fun and enjoyable because you get to use your mind a lot, and maybe a pinch of luck.

When I think about board games two games automatically comes to mind - SCRABBLE and CHESS. These games were part of my childhood. I played these games with my family and relatives.

For chess, I learned this game from my father who is really good at it. I was very amazed at first with the universally known 3-moves gameplay. It took me more than 10 games to figure it out how to block and avoid that. I was amazed how my father can still win the game even if he only have the king, a pawn, and a rook versus me who still had the queen, bishops, pawns, and the king. So, I had that pressure even as a child to fight and win battles because that is my father's way of teaching. But, please do not get me wrong! I love playing chess because it is very analytical and strategical (if that's a word in English)

I used to play scrabble with our neighbor and it was always a fun activity to do it with them. We made it more fun by adding dares and consquences for losers after each game. The consequence could be drinking 2 glasses of water, having a charcoal marks on the face, or holding the banana leaves with their mouths in the whole duration of the next game.

Anyways, I am sharing here the photos of my students competing for the district. There are 6 secondary schools in our district and we are glad to have won the tournament. The first place winners of the District Meet would go forward to the Division Level competing with the winners of the other four districts.

Chess is a very good and strategic game, I wonder if you ever beat your father?

As a child, No. He really is good at it and in card games. But, I think I can beat him now.

I also enjoyed those board games when I was younger. My grandfather influenced me to play chess and it was also so hard to defeat him as a child. 😅 But when we beat the oldies, we're just so happy. 😂 fond memories..

You should probably join the chess game hosted by the pizza community! It's just for fun though, nothing so serious. 😅

I love Scrabble, I played it a few times with my brothers and it was one of my favorites. Chess caught my attention but I never dedicated myself to learn it, it seems to be quite complicated.

On the other hand, that reason you mention that you prefer board games to competitive sports because most of them you can play them individually without being blamed in case you lose, I loved it!

I rarely play those offline but when I was a kid, I grew up with online board games. They were pretty fun and intellectually stimulating especially Scrabble. As a kid, it was my way of enriching my vocabulary too. And Chess is probably the only offline game that I grew up with. Where I am from, kids make a bet around it and it was such a good time. I still play board games when I can and I am seeing these days people play it again especially chess :)

great pictures and some of the kids looked very serious haha

They really are so serious because they are representing their schools.

These two really are so fun to play. Ill surely teach my children this when they reach age 10.

I grew up playing chess with my father, too! It was kind of funny because I play it with men in the family. I was just the only girl who likes playing it. I can still recall how I played chess with my uncle, father, and grandpa while they were drinking alcohol 😂 What made it even more challenging was that I couldn't win even when they're already drunk. So I practised even more. And during intramurals, I'd always go for chess!

Now, I play it with my partner for fun 😊
I still get excited whenever someone invites me to play board and card games.

Wow! I love to play those games, too. And my favorite among them is the Scrabble, hehe. I remember when I was younger, we were playing with my cousins but now, seems everyone is busy. Hehe
