First Football / Soccer

Hi fellow Sports fans,

Today I wanted to enjoy a bit that our son has gotten into soccer!

First Football / Soccer

The good thing about our son that we are incredibly grateful for is that he is quite the avid outdoors kid and loves to do all kinds of sports things. One his recent things that he's taken a big liking to is soccer! Or if you're from the rest of the world and not America, Football! Lol

We have plenty of friends that have kids and one of the biggest travesties is that they don't encourage their kids to go outside and play any longer! The kids are inside playing video games, watching TV or glued to a tablet or phone and I think that's terrible. I know that things are changing in the world that's for sure, where the sports aren't as interesting to younger people as they used to be in the past for various reasons. One thing though is that the benefits of sports are enormous!

Putting the competition notion aside, one of the best things I enjoy him playing soccer even though it's informal and only with me so far, is that it gets us both some exercise. We get far too little exercise these days that's for sure. With working a lot and even more so working remotely and me sitting at a desk, I don't get as much exercise as I used to sadly.

That has thankfully changed though with the little man! He has begged me to play soccer now and I absolutely love that. Some days it's tough if I'm tired or something but the best thing is to have him get me outside and doing things like this. It burns his energy but it also burns mine and we all know that as adults, our energy levels go down because we aren't as active as we once were!

We haven't signed him up for an official team or anything and I think it will be funny when we do because he isn't used to playing on the grass! We've thus far just been playing in our parking lot on the pavement lol and that's quite a bit different than grass. He was actually annoyed one day when we were playing on the grass because the ball wasn't flying around as fast or far as it did when we kick it on the pavement. I don't know if parking lot soccer is a thing yet but maybe we can turn it into something! LOL

Well, that's cool! He's playing real football (joking)! It's a good thing for a kid to go outdoors and do a lot of physical activity. It helps development. And well, I don't think growing into a couch potato is a good thing. Reminds me of this thing that Harlan Ellison used to say about kids and technology. Maybe you have read it. Also, it's a plus that the activity involves quality time too! A win-win scenario.

Yeah I'm a huge proponent of physical activity for kids! Hell even adults aren’t meant to be cooped up in the house all the time, we just deal with it. The kids can’t be subject to that same BS in my opinion lol.

I’m lucky in that I get lots of quality time with the little man. Him and I go for multiple walks so it’s good to do something a little different like soccer!

Preach, brother! I totally agree with this idea. But I need to get into some outdoors activities other than woodworking. Next week is going to be it.

And that's totally cool! Quality time and exercise are a great combo!

Very cool! A lot of parents are pressuing their children to fulfill the dreams that their parents were not able to achieve. I think its funny how he doesnt like tha gras :D But it might help him later on to think faster than the other kids.

Good luck in the future! :)

Yeah I know the pressure of parents forcing their kids into these things. Not a fan of that for sure! Thankfully he enjoys being outside and is outside more than he is inside which is great. Just need to get a house with a yard now lol.

The soccer on the pavement is fun but it’s still a little dangerous he’s almost accidentally stepped on the ball instead of kicking it, almost getting hurt. Close calls for sure but hopefully I can get him on the grass instead lol

Love this mate. My son could've played this year his first year but I enrolled him into a little academy to get the basics right before getting into club footy. Some of the kids are so elite!

Regardless, team sports is amazing and a great way to get kids to learn to communicate and create friendships

That’s great, I agree that team sports are a good way to have them learn lots of different things!
