Una pianta rampicante ornamentale perenne adatta per pergolati, per ricoprire muri e grate, originaria del Sud America precisamente dal Brasile fu scoperta dal botanico francese Commerson prendendo il nome Bougainvillea dall'esploratore Louis Antoine de Bougainville. I suoi fiori assumono diverse colorazioni, rosa, viola, rosso, arancione e bianco.

Data la sua provenienza non tollera il freddo intenso, ma posizioni ben soleggiate!
