Baby geckos, dead cane toads and life sapping heat. Just another summer day in Brisbane.

I love geckos. I always have.

As I curious, wonder-filled child, I would watch them walk across walls like they were on the floor. I thought it was magic.

Not like 'the opposite of science' magic, but rather the 'life is so cool!' magic.

Cane toads, on the other hand, have not won a place in my heart. They are a beast of a pest that has caused so many issues across Australia.

They're better dead, but even then, they still disgust me. I wish there was a good solution for eradicating them, but no one has found it yet.

Both geckos and cane toads, and a myriad of other animals seem to thrive in this persistent hot, humid weather.

Me? Not so much much.

I mean, I cope okay, but on days like this, I'm definitely not thriving.

I got out of bed, and got in the pool.

I went for a walk, and got in the pool

I served a client (in the air-conditioning) and then got in the pool.

I recorded some videos (in the air con again), and, you guessed it, got in the pool.

As I did a slow walk, with @new.yhings, in the bush, after dinner, I reflected on how lethargic I felt. I'm sure part of it is still catching up on several nights of not so great sleep.

But I had to remember that being in this heat, with very high humidity, for hours a time, is, in and of itself draining.

So, now that I'm home, (with my hair still wet from getting in the pool 😁) I think it's time to watch some TV and relax before we attempt parkrun tomorrow, in similar, if not worse, weather.

Here's to air conditioning I can sleep and work in, and a backyard pool. 🙏

When you were a child, the world was a vast mystery, full of wonders that defied logic. Geckos, dancing on the walls, reminded you that life was magical in its purest form. However, giant toads symbolised the struggles we face, reminding us that not everything is beautiful or easy.

Today, as the heat enveloped you, you found refuge in the pool, an act of resistance against the oppressive weather. Each small breath became a reminder that, although life can be overwhelming, there is always room for serenity. Adaptation is part of our journey, a cycle of struggle and rest that teaches us to find peace even in the most challenging moments.
