Catherine Hill Bay was not what we were expecting!

After a hot, humid, hilly pakrun in Newcastle we headed south to the Central Coast via Catherine Hill Bay.
I'd heard my Mum and others talk about how special the town was: heritage listed, on pristine coastline, surrounded by bush.
It was those things but the developers have since got in and there are now at least twice as many giant new houses, as there are the small, old heritage buildings.
I also expected the beach to be inviting, but the waves were thrashing given how wide the bay is.
It was also super hot; I felt like I'd already had enough sun before we'd even got out of the car.
I was keen for a coffee but, strangely, there was not a single cafe or shop to be found. Only a pub that had a bunch of old, rough looking guys sitting out the front drinking at 11 in the morning.
Before we left, Brad was keen to get to a lookout to grab a good shot of the old pier. We got it by following a goat track along a ridge and dipping down the side of it.
I like walking and I like being outdoors. I also like exploring new towns I've never been to and discovering what places are really like.
They don't always turn out to be what you expect but that doesn't mean they're not beautiful ❤️
