Mount Gambier really does have a BLUE lake.

I'm starting to wonder about some of the places we're staying. It's not as simple as 3 star = average. 4 star = good. 5 star = great
When your 4 star accommodation has a flashing light in the smoke alarm that is disruptive to your sleep and the bed is on wheels so it rolls anytime you toss of turn, it's not really that fantastic.
I probably sound like a spoilt rich kid but I think I'm just sick of the Mister paying a small fortune for a "fantastic" hotel only for me to have a shitty night's sleep. Again.
Today, I had to have a talk with myself.
I'm extremely lucky to travel far and wide and see and do so much in a country that is one of the safest places in the world.
With my belly hurting (again) and my heart feeling very tired (again), I pulled out my tiny permanent market and wrote on my wrists:
Relaxed (left)
Grateful (right)
When I'm having a rough time I find it useful to have visual reminders of things that help me have a better experience of life.
There are always things to be grateful for. Always. Examples: I have shelter, and a lock on the door, and running drinking water, and hit water for a shower and my belly is full from a meal I was able to cook after driving to a local, fully stocked supermarket.
So much to be grateful for.
And reminding myself of the word "relaxed" prompts me to look for thing that MAKE NE relax!
Like seeing children play, and smiling at very old people, and seeing the breeze move through the trees, or watching birds on one of the many lakes we passed on the last couple of days.
Strangely, seeing the Blue Lake here at Mount Gambier this afternoon did not make me relax. I woke, startled from a nap I took in the passenger seat. Brad informed me we'd devoured via Blue Lake and did I want to see it?
Thankfully, the nap did wonders for my belly and my heart, and I felt good enough to (slowly, carefully) walk up the many, many, many stairs to the lookout point.
The lake was, indeed, VERY blue.
It was wonderful 😊
Just another thing to be grateful for while we take our lives on the road.

Which way are you headed down to Vic? The blue lake is quite extraordinary.
I remember hating India for that - never got a good night's sleep! Saying that, had the worse sleep ever last night. I'd forgotton to take the pregesterone and man, does that cause crazy, violent, awful, anxious dreams.
And it's pissing down today. All day. A good day for driving?

It is natural that when travelling, we question the quality of our accommodation and the expectations we bring with us. The hotel experience is not always measured by stars, and what should be a refuge can become a source of frustration. However, your reflection shows an admirable ability to find light in the darkness.
Recognising the fortune of being able to travel and enjoy experiences is an act of wisdom. Sometimes, true luxury does not lie in material comforts, but in the ability to appreciate the simple and everyday things. Your reminders on your wrists are a beautiful gesture that anchors you in the present, allowing you to see what really matters: safety, health and the moments of beauty that surround us.
Finding relaxation in the little things, such as children's laughter or leaves dancing in the wind, is a wonderful way to cultivate inner peace. And although the Blue Lagoon took you by surprise, its beauty is a reminder that, even in unexpected moments, there are wonders waiting for us.
Thank you for sharing your journey and your thoughts. May every step you take, every stair you climb, bring you closer to the serenity you seek. There will always be reasons to be grateful, and there is always beauty along the way.
